Menu problem

Hello there. I have encountered a problem when running certain games
on the emulator (using v 1.6 btw), and I don`t know how to solve it, so
I have decided to ask here for help.

When the start menu pops up
on games such as Pokemon Stadium, and Kirby - The Crystal Shards, I am
unable to choose between the diffrent options that come up, for instance
when Im asked "Do you know how to use Kirbys copy ability?" I can`t put focus to
the "Yep!" option, hindering me from coming further into the game.
I`m guessing it`s a bad ROM, but since both games are ESA protected
there aren`t that many sites that offer downloads for the files.
Any input on this is appreciated.

I have tried every button that you can assign, so that cant be the problem.
If you have any other suggestions I would be glad to hear them.

Edit: Nevermind, I changed the assignments, and it seems the number buttons
on my laptop isnt working properly. Thanks for the help ^^.

Edit number 2: I have another problem with the graphics of Paper Mario:
The transition between diffrent cutscenes and gameplay isnt as smooth as it should be, and the screen becomes blurry in certain places of the game, like if there had been laid a slightly translucent image on top of it.
