How would I go about using GC controllers on my computer? Is there a fairly simple converter I can make?

There are several (joybox, etc) you can try ebay or google for gamecube usb adapter

Any ideas on how to DIY? I'd prefer not to spend money on a pre-made one.

I found this (http://ezhid.sourceforge.net/gcpad.html) but I'm not sure if this is what I'm looking for (didn't read it very in-depth yet).
