I only buy things I can use. Although hacking the heck out of a Dreamcast might be fun it's a pointless endevor if you want to get new DC games (example).
10K bucks is a lot for a 100m disk drive:D

You would have to be a completely crazy collector to pay 10k for something that won't even work on the games. Kinda makes you wonder that if the DC wouldn't have flopped then would it have been implemented?

Sega had a huge credibility issue because of there stupidity with the Saturn and prior generation units. 3dFX also caused MAJOR problems for themselves and SEGA when they decided to go public. As a consequence they wasted money sueing SEGA and wasted SEGA's money as well. Why? They announced the plans they had with SEGA, when the later company had specifically stated secracy. 3dFX failed by the end of 2001. SEGA was not much far behind.
Bottom line was SEGA doomed itself by prior carelessness and poor choices. The PS2 was merely it's death nell as people didn't want to deal with the system due to SEGA's prior nastyness with the Saturn. Technically speaking both 3dFX and Sega were doomed by the Dreamcast mostly 3dFX doomed it and themselves for that matter.

There is a big difference between $4000 and $10000, how do you know really no one here wants this prototype?

I would have thought any mildly interested ebayer, would have saved it to their favourites to keep an eye on :)

There is only one zip drive for all Dream casts he was just posting at this oddity.
Aparently the Dream Cast still has titles being developed for it (comercially).
Maybe the PS2 will be the same way? Who knows. :)

It sold for over a thousand
Says reserves not met though so maybe it wont even go for that.
If it does go for that though, lets hope some dreamcast hacker/developer got there hands on it :D

A tad sideways and unessasary rant at 3dfx. SEGAs issues were financial. They actually did ok on the Dreamcast, especially initially. It had a similar first year to the original Xbox. The difference is it never had a Halo like system shifter. The lack of mass market appeal and mounting debt from the previous generation meant sega had to wind down their hardware ambitions.
