View Full Version : Dolphin Final 1.03.2 x64 Public Beta (single/dualcore support)
Falcon4ever
August 21st, 2007, 22:36
I guess some guys thought we never would update this page again ;)...
Last year the Dolphin Beta testing team (CKemu/Chaoscode/Knuckles) already posted shots of Dolphin 1.03.2 x64 which also has dualcore support.
Original thread link: http://emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=39432
Well finally you can test this version aswell, however there are a few general notes:
- Remember that this version is a PRIVATE BETA version.
- This means it is less stable than Dolphin 1.02, USE AT OWN RISK.
- This version requires a 64bit operating system (either Windows XP64 or Vista64)
- SO IT WILL NOT WORK ON A 32BIT OS (GOT THAT?)
- The graphics/audio plugins haven't been upgraded.
- Due core changes some games might run better, some might run worse or not at all
- Speed is now CPU dependant, dualcore is obviously helps a lot.
Quote from Chaoscode: "SSBM is 100% playable with 100% speed on my crappy computer."
Enjoy this Public beta testing release, and...
don't forget to thank ector & F|RES in this thread!

When you're ingame, go in the video plugin options, turn off shaders.. enabled "overlay some statistics". go back ingame, then return in the video config and turn back off the statistics... it won't be as pretty but it will be clearer,

Amazing work @ the team!
edit: One question: I don't get any sound neither in Wind Waker nor in Super Mario Sunshine (the 2 games i tested so far). Is this normal or has it something to do with my soundchip or my configuration? My onboard soundchip is a Realtek HD Audio. It's the same problem with the latest 32 Bit release of Dolphin btw. (which is no wonder since the plugins haven't been updated).

I think it's alittle silly to say blame Nintendo that they didn't make their console easier to duplicate. When you take on a project like this you know what you're getting into as far as what will be a problem and what will not be. They just need to get it done somehow, or not.

Shadow the Hedgehog and Super Smash Bros. Melee are the only games that I have tested that have sound...
Were there changes made to improve compatibly, or is this new beta all for the sake of bringing it to 64x?
I would like to test a bunch of other games that have been deemed incompatible in previous versions, but it'd be nice to know if it would even be worth it.

The problem is that the soundchip of the gamecube isnt well documented! There are no good specefics devs can use for a good audio plugin.

This has led to me digging out my GameCube games that I never quite got around to finishing now I remember how great some of them were.
Again, brilliant work. I haven't been quite as stunned by an emulation project since the early days of TRWin/TR64.

August 28th, 2007, 23:43
As for the sound, the likely reason why it doesn't work on most Nintendo games, is that the sound for those games have not been cracked and documented. Sega games use ADX audio, which has been known how to play even before the gamecube's time, since it has existed for a long time. Also, SSBM audio has been cracked too. Rule of thumb; if it works in the in_cube plugin, it works with the dolphin (besides AFC, and a few others.)
MasteroftheWind

I know that it gives a AFC Audio plugin for Winamp.
But not a AW Plugin.

Ok I've given the Emu the run around and I don't know if it's my OS or my video card or the emulator but when I try to run Animal Crossing, there's something there but I just can't see it. Only when I hit the stop button on the Emu do I see the actual game screen very briefly. Sometimes it pops up for a second or two while it's running but that's about it?
Can anyone verify if this is just my system or is it the emu?
Also since I imagine this emulator probably would have been made on a pre DX10 machine, would it be wiser to use it with a 64bit version of XP rather than Vista?
Thanks! :bouncy:

I'm using vistax64 and somehow, Metroid Prime 2 (NTSC) and Naruto 4 seem to work on and off... Did anyone notice the same? Cause afiak these weren't working on x64 beta3.
I wanted to trail and error this, but some how it seems totally random. Sometimes it does decode the mpg and doesn't get the WTF return code so you'll get ingame and sometimes you get b/w mpg and you'll have full compatability...
Metroid Prime 2 (3d looks great!) ran around 15-20fps btw, Naruto 4 beyond full speed. After a reboot Naruto 4 works 70% of the time and Metroid I didn't have the time for yet...
Anywho, I'd just thought I'd post my findings....'N

Hmmm, you guys did a wonderful job on this emulator, since I last used it, the speed is incredible, on my Vista 64 OS, with no drivers installed, I got more than 100% on SSBM, my system is:
Proc: AMD 3700+
Video: NX6800GS 256MB
RAM: 2GB
I beat the game on very easy mode few seconds ago, it never seemed to drop below normal speed, but it got CRAZY fast at the boss hand fight.
Naruto 4 never gets past the intro video, but oh well, thats ok, I'll try more games later. Heres my most sincere thank you for ector & F|RES, and all the others who helps make this emulator what it is today, you've all done an INCREDIBLE job.

Well, the processor in your comp is either 32 or 64bits. If you have the latter, you can install for example either Vista x64 or XP x64(both needed for Dolphin)... You can still install 32bits Windows on a 64bits processor, but not the other way around.
Hope this helps...

CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) will tell you if your processor supports x86-64 instructions. Just download the latest version and run it. Look in the attached image to see what you're looking for. Of course, you'll also need to be running a 64-bit OS (64-bit processors can run 32-bit and 64-bit OS's) to use 64-bit programs such as Dolphin.

Nope, sorry to rectify this but it's due to the game calling a sound init which the sound plugin doesn't suppport yet. It's possible to skip it completely if you know where to jump the function call and point it to another code.
Because Dolphin doesn't work with a patch-system and Hexing the executeable is not what I think the author's had in mind to make the emu more "compatible", you'd have to do it with a RAM editor on the fly or patch the iso (far stretch).
So unless someone of our community debugs the error and post the right address (if it's allowed), no-one (unlike the author's and the beta-testers) will be able to skip the function call or sound init.
My knowledge of debugging and coding is barely enough to make a trainer, I tried myself already but I haven't had any succes yet. (minus editing counters and text)
Mayb it's an idea to "patch" the sound plugin, if it's discontinued, because hexxing the app itself will not improve anything for the community as it would kill the function call for every game(being compatible or not)..

All Pentium D CPUs have EM64T. The only Intel dual-core CPU that does not have EM64T is the Core Duo (Yonah), and a handful CPUs based on Yonah. A quick CPU-Z readout can confirm EM64T functionality.

Ok, I "//" that because I solved it. Now I can get pretty goog FPS (40-60 at SSBM) but it goes too fast. I'll try with CPU-Killer and so. Ah, and the black textures keep apearing.
(But I notice an incredible improvement from 32 bits version, keep the good work!).

Dolphin 1.02 and 1.0.3.2 work perfectly (granted a lot slower than Dolphin 64 would be) under all settings...
But whatever I try Dolphin 64 won't cooperate with me...

That mobile Intel chip is the problem. It's worthless for emulation, like all other integrated chips from Intel.

November 11th, 2007, 00:51
Ouch... Intel GPUs are pretty much useless... Last time i can remember, the Intel DirectX implementation didn't work very well, and the OpenGL one was even worse (Its possible that i'm wrong, because I don't actually have one up and running at this time)
If theres a way in hell you can get a better graphics card, meaning mainstream (Most random brands probably won't do it :() like NVidia or ATI, take the chance as fast as possible. Almost gaurenteed you'll notice a huge difference, especially if you can afford to grab a top of the line (Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS was pretty good IMHO)

Well, he has a laptop, so he's choices on graphics chips is pretty limited from the get go. One should never try to run emulators that emulate complex 3D graphics on a laptop.
A good desktop computer with a decent graphics card is needed. Stay away from integrated graphics in desktop computers, as well.

If all previous versions work fine, why won't Dolphin 64 work, and why is the error message of this nature?

Because the Dolphin X64 only works with WinXP/Vista 64 Bits operating systems. Read the Changes on the Dolphinsite ffs. :P

Is there a possibility to limit fps?
There are also very ugly graphic glitches (look at page 9), is it possible to fix them? I guess it's in grapih settings.

Direct3D Device Creation failure!

You have any ideas what's going on?

@Killer07:
To limit FPS try turning off dual-core or dynarec or a combination of both.
If that does not work download CPUkiller and set it to use your CPU at a level that will provide an acceptable FPS level for you.

And BTW I already tried like 5 million times what you suggested and everything else you can try but, as ector says, it seems to be a bug in Dolphin... Some D3D flag has been set on the plugin that my crappy video card doesn't support...

Hi. I read that some of you are getting very high framerates insome conditions. You know you can limit your framerate to your refreshrate on your monitor by using vertical sync. and might have to use tripple buffer too. yeah 60hz is still very high, but its better than 200odd during the text areas of games. (I.E I get 200+ for the very beginning of zelda where it is explaining the story in the book, but using vertical sync, it stays at about 57 meaning you can read the text)

I'll have to try that since I'm getting similar speed problems. I didn't think any limiter in any shape or form was implemented.
Overall, It's definately much faster due to the utilization of my x64 OS and of course the dual core support (though I've never seen dolphin exceed the usage of one core on my system (25% CPU on my quad core machine) even with dual core support enabled for some reason)

What I think he's trying to say is that you can't play from the beggining till the end because some parts in the middle of the game hang. But you can beat Ganon (and therefore beat the game) if you use a save near the ending, see the credits and stuff. But I also heard of cheats or something like that to prevent from hanging in those parts, but I'm not sure of the details.

Hi! One guy upload some shots from Resident EVil:Remake. It's emulated by Dolphin Final 1.03.2 x64 Public Beta. Take a look:

Feel the difference? Why is "Gekko limited" in his shots? It's not a Dolphin? So, what is it? And FPS counter position is in upper-left corner of the emulation window. In my version FPS-counter is located in the bottom-left corner of the emulating window.
And i'm trying to play Resident Evil:Remake (PAL) on my Athlon DualCore 5600+/2Gb/GF8600GTS - nothing happens! Only black screen and fps changing from 25 to 40. May be it's not a playable?

If I rember correctly Factor 5 was involved in developing the gamecube's audio hardware (and the audio SDK: MusyX). These guys are technical wizards. Keeping in mind that it took 7 years to emulate their n64 games (Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Battle for Naboo and Rogue Squadron only boot with Ziggy's LLE plugin) I'd say gamecube sound emulation is not coming soon.

Yes, English is my first language. Does it bother you when people have bad grammar? I think it bother you. Well, that's your problem. I'm a pretty easygoing kind of guy online, and it generally doesn't bother me, but I know that some people can't stand chat speak and other forms of poor grammar. Personally, the only things that bug me are When People Type Like This and sentences like "What's your favorite thing to do on the weekends?", which make me inwardly cringe as a result of training in proper English.
Dont complain about poor grammar if you dont have an adequate grasp of the English language. Reasons why I do not care grammar formalism is that I can speak/write English fluently but we all know that we are not perfect, anyway. :)

They are very ignorant and they don't know what it's like to learn another language because they do not KNOW another language! I mean is that stupid of them? Yes... so, they insult because they are stupid.
Some people like you insults other people like me to make themselves feel great.
Guess what ? Exactly like someone here said: so many native English speakers can't spell at all and don't even bother about grammar - and most of these people don't know any other language...

You guys stick together, huh? The both of you who can not read or write correctly, or comprehend? Sercio?
Does this look like it's about grammar to you, or me wanting to insult him for fun? No, bob is asking if there will EVER be a 32-bit dual core version released at some point in the future. He does not ask when, as rockman suggests, he is not making the dev's unhappy, as he says. Rockman confused what bob was saying because rockman does not know english well enough and saw the word released, and figured he was asking for a release date. It's not about grammar, it's about totally confusing what one guy is asking and responding in a way that makes no sense at all. Can't you get that without it being about insults? If you're insulted that he does not know what he is talking about, then that's one thing.
Rockman has been a member longer than I have, haha, and he's been butchering the language longer, too. You guys make no sense when you post, as if him being here longer gives him a pass on being a dumbass or something. Get your facts straight before you post, please.

I sensed your egocentric self in the gecko forum already and this just confirms it. Do you comprehend what the guy in the last post in the page before this means by "you were a dick"? You are one. The guy you are insulting are using advanced english words you cannot even dream about to grasp. Its redicilous how easy it is to notice how hard you are trying to complete your sentences...

You're all missing the point, go back and read post 145 to 149, rockman clearly didn't understand what the guy was asking. Then he took my correcting him and trying to make him understand what the guy was actually asking as being mean. My first post was to inform the guy that he didn't understand and he just took it badly. Then, it turned bad. All he had to do was say, yes,I realize he was not asking for a release date and I made the wrong comments there because I didn't understand, but instead he chose to play a victim in all this.
Not about him spelling a word wrong or missing a period here or there, that would be grammar. This is about understanding what he said.

Rockman Forte respects the developer. A lot. Sometimes misunderstands questions or overreacts. But how many sentances did it say to explain? "I think he meant..." would had worked. instead... ;)
[SS] Starscream
April 8th, 2008, 05:17
That's all I was saying, but he couldn't deal with it and went right to anyone who corrects him as being mean. I was mean after that, but not before. He didn't understand what the guy was saying and never understood what I was saying and probably never will.

Starscream, I sometimes really wonder, what's wrong with you. You are here for nearly two years and always try to start completely senseless discussions.
It has nothing to do with the sticky or the topic, so we don't need to discuss that here. If you really want to discuss RockmanForte's "bad" grammar or anything like that, then you should probably open a new topic and done.
A moderator should clean this spammed like hell topic, because it has nothing to do with this topic.

Nope, I had it set to HAL...
Dolphin 1.02 and 1.0.3.2 work perfectly (granted a lot slower than Dolphin 64 would be) under all settings...
But whatever I try Dolphin 64 won't cooperate with me...
System Specs:
OS: MS Windows XP 64bit SP2
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 @ 1.73Ghz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
GPU: Mobile Intel 945GM (224MB Shared)
If anybody can offer any help it's gladly appreciated...
don't know if u r still here, but if you update your intel drivers now, the problem will be solved, my laptop gpu is intel gmax3100, and it had the same problem. i recently updated my drivers and now it works good (ssmb is a bit too fast though -.-)
hope that helps for all who are getting this error.

All I think we really need is a speed limiter... most games are playable to the end, they are just to fast... but not in the right way... even if you slow down your pc its still too fast it just skips more??? anyhow I've been anticipating a frame limiter since last august, hopefully this summer we hear about an update ;-)

I'm sure the devs are just trying to get it right so that we don't have to linger and wait for the realease after this release, it will probably meet most standards (except for sound but who can blame then) no documentation=no emulation

Sorry for my awful english, but I'm from Argentina.. Thanks in advanced..Dolphin only has a Dual-Core option. It doesn't yet utilize all four cores of a Quad-Core processor (and from what I've been hearing it would take large amounts of optimization for the four cores to actually be used effectively, at a faster speed than Dual-Core).
Maybe in the future... But who knows when that will be?

Ok so I'm a total n00b and have little idea of what I'm doing. I'm not even sure if this is where I should post my question, but whenever I run this version of dolphin for Super Smash Bros. I've looked for an answer already, although perhaps in the wrong places.

Hey everyone
Glad to see a new build of the emulator...I have read many times people complaining about this emu but its the only GC one so I say well done to you all
A bit disappointed that the new build is only for 64x systems and not 32x...hopefully a 32x version that supports dual core will be released
Anywho heres my specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
2046mb RAM
Intel Core 2 CPU @ 2.00 GHZ dual core
Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS BFG @ 256 mb boosted to 1008 mb over the RAM
Any chance that I would be able to get Resident Evil Zero to work with the emu as its the only game I wish to play on the GC
Thanks and all the best

It plays perfectly at the intro...the 1st cutscence is screwed up and when the game starts the screen is just a greeny grey colour :(
what I could do was turn on that wireframe thing and the greeny grey disappeared and I could see my character but as you know you cant exactly play a game in wireframe.....
ah well hopefully in the near future this problem will be addressed

I would like to thanks the guys behind this emulator, they've done a really great work on it !
I'm running it on Vista x64 with a 3.4Ghz E6600 and it's running pretty fast :)
it's actually running faster than it should at even more than 30fps using dynarec + dualcore options...
Hope there will be an implemented framelimiter soon... or maybe could you just release at least some parts of the src code ? (i'd really like to see how it's working :santa: )
anyway, it just needs a framelimiter and some work on the graphic side of things to be perfect :bouncy:

I just thought that some help (not only from me) would maybe speed up the development (...)
But nevermind open source is not usually that great on such a project
as for the videos, unregistered users of fraps can only record 30s of videos, that's why it's short :bouncy:

hi,
great job with this fantastic emulator!
I want to know how to slow down the running game, respectively how to limit the framerate?! Beyond Good And Evil runs on Dolphin 64 1.03.2 x64 (von Vista x64) with 160 frames per second... to fast for my taste! :)
Legend of Zelda: TP does not start... after the safety screen and the nintendo-logo the screen remain black.
My System:
Core 2 Duo 2Ghz
GeForce 7700go (169.62 ForceWare)
2 GB Ram
Windows Vista x64 Business
P.S: Why does Dolphin opens a new window to display the game instead of embedding it into the main Dolphin-window?
P.P.S: Is there a way to configure a xbox360 controller pad? Only my left analog-stick works.
