Noob question part deux

When I downloaded a few different zipped roms, I noticed that their were several different tags in the file names of the rom files (eg. (U), (E), (J)).

1) Am I correct in assuming that these stand for united states, England, and Japan respectively?

2) Does it matter whether I play the US or English versions? I know that one is NTSC and one is PAL, but does this have any effect on an emulator?

3) What do the tags [f1], [m1] and [t1] mean in the file name?

Thanks for the help.

1) You were correct about the USA and Japan, (E) stands for "Europe".
2) Usually, NTSC ROM's run at a higher framerate than thier PAL counterparts, so it makes a speed difference.
3) The tags that are added depend on whether its hacked, has multiple languages, or its translated.

[h] = hacked
[f] = fixed (this can mean a lot of things)
[m#] the number of languages present in the game; multi-language game.
[t] = fan translated, the translation having been applied directly to the rom
[a] = alternate dump
[o] = overdump
[!] = verified good dump

etc. etc.
