Mario Kart 54 Question

This is my first attempt at using an emulator. I read the guide and got everything working i canget into the game and start racing on a track, but i cant go forward. I can jump and turn my car, but no matter what button i press i cant move forward. This is probably a stupid question but how can i fix this?

Make sure that you have all the buttons set in Options --> Configure Controller Plugin.

That would be the A button (on the Nintendo 64 controller). As stated, configure the keys to your liking and you'll have no problems.
