Is it possible to play without a controller and USB adaptor?

I don't currently have the time or money to buy a usb adaptor nor do i even know where to find one, so i need to know if it is possible for the time being to play using a keyboard? I tried playing Super Mario 64 and it doesnt respond to my keyboard and every game i try to play tells me I need to insert a controller. So is it even possible to play with a keyboard? Where can I locally find a cheap USB adaptor?

Yes it is possible to play with a keyboard. It would display extreme short-sightedness from emulator/input-plugin authors' part should they choose not to include keyboard support, don't you think?

Make sure that Player 1 controller is marked as Plugged in.

The keyboard works, though I think you'll find it's not nearly as nice as a real joystick for most games. ;)
