I ain`t got any speakers connected to the PC. I connected my l33t 5 cd Panasonic mini stereo system, 1400 watt, hehe. Real nice bass, gotta tell you that.

Umm...I think you got your wattage wrong. 1400 watts on a mini system would be insane. My THX certified 6.1 home theater system is only 600 watts with a 120 watt subwoofer.

my sound system consists of;
Sony Playstation connected to my AMP connected to four speakers :D
Surprising good sound from the PSOne, it is the one thing it does well :P
Reznor007
April 4th, 2002, 13:43
Actually sound is yet another thing PS1 sucks at. Sounds in the 8KHz+ range tend to get distorted all the time.

My system:
Integra DTR-7.2 THX Select receiver 100 watt*6 channels(DTS-ES 6.1 discrete)

Monster Cable THX subwoofer cable
Sony SA-WM40 12" 120 watt subwoofer
B&W CC3 Center Speaker
Rotel RCD-951 HDCD Player (digital-coaxial audio connection)
Sanyo Hi-Fi VCR
Sanyo DWM-360 DVD Player (fiber optic audio connection, Svideo)
Apex AD-1000 DVD Player (digital-coaxial audio connection, Svideo)

1400 watt P.M.P.O, as in 2*70 watt RMS. It`s not much, but it`s enough to rock my cozy room.
Reznor007
April 4th, 2002, 15:10
Ok, that makes sense. I thought you were talking about 2*700 RMS, which would be overkill for a small room(and not something I would call a mini system ;) )

/me forgot the forumula to convert volts to watts, heh
DuDe
April 4th, 2002, 18:33
Converting volts to watts? Eh, don`t volts and watts describe two COMPLETELY different things? Watts determine the power of the machine, while volts determine the power of the electrons.

If you want excellent speakers buy Bose ones, otherwise it's basically Sony or Creative if you want PC ones ;)

i dont like bose, they spread the sound out too much when watching movies. They're not focused enough for me but I guess its a personal thing.

The Sony sub I have is real nice for the price($200 US). It has good sound, and low bass...but I'm wanting to upgrade to a Velodyne sub in the future.

Bose.....hahahahahahhaahha!!!
Sorry, but Bose charges way too much for consumer level speakers. For a little bit more than what they charge, you can get high end speakers that sound MUCH better.

ya sure, louder sure, imo Bose speakers have clarity at all volumes, I haven't been able to get either the Radio or the system to distort at high volume.
and for a grand for the system I'm damm impressed compared to the crap people buy as separates thinking they're wonderful, (it also doesn't look like a stereo either :D )
the main thing that effects your speakers isn't the actual speaker anyway it's the distance from the CD Laser to the speaker and the resistance/ quality of the wiring

bose speakers cost way to much for their worth, i stuck with the sony towers cause they only cost $255 for the biggest ones and they are fuggin loud. plus i got a fat 300watt 15" JBL sub so my towers can take it easy on the bass

WTF? Bose? Sony? Typical 'general consumer' brands.
If you want some *real* speakers, you're gonna get yourself a Klipsch ProMedia or a MidiLand speakerset (especially the latest surround kits).
Now THAT are speakers. Clear tones, pumping basses. No Sony/Philips/Pioneer/Bose crap. Get some real stuff.
UNF!

Bose speakers tend to fall short in many areas when compared to better speakers. Bose is one of the better "general consumer" speakers, but any serious audio person would laugh at them.
Go to some DVD/home theater/audiophile site and ask if they would go for Bose over B&W. Be sure to wear a flame retardant suit by the way ;)
And why worry about cable length when you are running a digital connection from the CD player to the receiver? :)

and? what would be the point in that, B&W sounds better to them, and Bose sounds better to me, what do you expect from Bose? their speakers are tiny, and the thing that bose has been able to do is make speakers that sound great to the average person not the major audiophile, that's their strength, a major audiophile is going to spend a fortune on everything as a consumer I'm going for what sounds best.

The thing is, Bose is so expensive, that for a tiny amount more, you can get a much better high end speaker.
Example:
http://mirror.bose.com/home_audio/ht_speakers/am15/images/pi_am15.jpg
Bose's best home theater speaker set, price $1,300 US.
http://www.bwspeakers.com/images/photoItem/602_Black_Stand_Spec.jpg
B&W DM602-S3...$600/pair US * 2 pairs(front/rear)= $1,200 US.
http://www.bwspeakers.com/images/photoItem/pic11lcr3blackgrilleoffhori.jpg
B&W LCR3 Center speaker...$200 US.
http://www.sonystyle.com/images/medium/shots/sawm40.jpg
Sony SA-WM40 subwoofer...$180 US.
Totals:
Bose-$1,300 US
B&W-$1,580 US
Now, for a mere $280 more you can get a MUCH better, and bigger sound. Just look, the B&W speakers are 7" Kevlar cones, the Bose are about 3" paper cones...
With Bose you are buying a conevntional speaker with a pricey nameplate.

you missed something, size :P
http://www.bose.com/home_audio/wave_systems/awms/images/pil_awms.jpg
anyway that's what's sitting in my house, I don't want separate speakers etc... my point is that Bose are ideal for the consumer, they produce simple products which for my ears, and for at least 90% of the population's ears, sounds great, they won't hear the difference, the market for B&W is completely separate
It's like telling someone to sell their PS2 to buy a Gamecube, they're essentially the same products (they both play games) but they're developed for different markets
the same thing applies in that the US gets mini disc player in Lime Green and Blue while Europe only gets it in blue and Japan gets both colours plus orange and purple aswell.

The game console example doesn't exactly work though. With consoles you have to buy games specific to the system. With speakers, the CD's you have will work on anything.
I've included a new picture of my setup, with every updated.

Ladies and gentleman, we have a new contender!
THE KEF KHT 2005 satellite system:

Audiophile quality in lovely little silver packages with no Bose 'oceanbird airflow' technology in sight. And for £700. I want one.

that sub you got was a good choice if you ask me. they're very cost friendly so consumers pick em up, and they're very loud and satisfying for picky bitch ass ho's like myself.
tho i do think sony should produce some bigger models because sometimes a 12" just isnt enough for everybody, and i wish they could redo the cabnet style and put the bass port in the front were it looks cooler.

Thought so :) But I don't turn it up loud enough to do damage. I like excellent quality at a moderate volume :)

Reznor007 - Do you use yor montior for your VCR, N64, etc.?
Also, what all do I need for surrond sound on my computer, is it a sound card thing or just a speaker thing. I currently have a 5 speaker setup, that is if you count the subwolfer as a speaker (do you?, I have no idea...)
Reznor007
April 9th, 2002, 07:42
I use my monitor as a display device :)
I can watch everything through my computer. The VCR is connected into the receiver, then into the computer's video input card(and de-interlaced using Dscaler). Using that I can watch VHS movies or normal TV.
The 2 DVD players are connected into different Svideo connections on the receiver, then into the computer. The N64 is connected into yet another Svideo connection on the receiver(cable also works with SuperNES and Gamecube).
All I have to do is press a button on the receiver for what I want to watch :)
Now, to get surround sound for PC, you need a sound card capable of 4 channel(or more) audio. Soundblaster Live supports this(4 channel, front l/r, rear l/r). Several other sound cards do too.
For 5.1 audio from PC you need a newer sound card. SB Live 5.1 and SB Audigy support that.
For speaker count, only full range speakers count. A subwoofer is considered a .1 channel. The typical setup is this:
Front Left/Right
Rear Left/Right
Front Center
Subwoofer
That is a 5.1 system. A 6.1 system adds a rear center speaker.
EdgeBlade

Cool, where can I go to learn more about that? Like about Dscaler and other componets used for such a setup?
Looks like I have a 4.1 setup... Um, yay? :P
