Official Title:
The Legend of Zelda: The Unicorns Lair
Story:
Years have passed since Link was turned back into a kid and returned the Master Sword to its resting place behind the Door of Time with the help of Zelda after eliminating the threat of Ganondorf’s evil ways.
Within Zora’s Domain, the blocked entrance residing under-water for so long leading to the Unicorn’s Lair has withered away after so many years; this unstability has drained Zora’s Domain of its water ruthlessly eliminating any chance of the Zora’s surviving in peace.
Take the role of Link as you begin your adventure in his very room and begin your search for something so mysterious that you need to believe it to see it.
With dozens of abilities, recycled items, traps, puzzles and so much more makes this Zelda game a must have!
Explore dozens of maps, a rich side-storyline and cutting edge graphics, this new fan-made Zelda title will surely have you coming back with replay value as well!
Complete with the options to have a resolution fit for your computer, its easy for anyone to play.
Story note: This idea may be entirely different or the same as Nintendo planned the beta screenshots to be. I and my girlfriend have no clue and the Nintendo staff was unable to release information to me without permission, so if Nintendo releases a complete Zelda game with the Unicorn Fountain later in the future remember this game is just an idea based on screenshots. This title in no way endorses what Nintendo planned, unless we miraculously nailed Nintendo’s idea of the screenshots.
Setting:
The Legend of Zelda: The Unicorn’s Lair is set years later after Ganondorf’s defeat, Link has grown up and the Zora’s have also grown a bit.
Programmers: None, some are needed
Artist: Janet Merai
Idea Background:
This idea started once I visited emutalk.com and found high resolution textures for my favorite Nintendo 64 game, Zelda 64. I looked around and was inspired to look at beta pictures again, and I just decided to go with the heck of it and asked my girlfriend Sona if she wanted to help me make a game based on a certain area taken out of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and it evolved from that question and idea!
Original game:
The Legend of Zelda: The Unicorn’s Lair, is entirely based on The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. If you haven’t played The Ocarina of Time, it is highly suggested you play it before even looking at this. Without Ocarina of Time, this game wouldn’t even exist!
A team needs to be formed
Featured inside the game:
Original Nintendo 64 bit graphics for fans who would love to see it in its native form
Lower resolution for computers who cannot survive a million polygons (lower than 64 bit)
Minor high resolution for those who can take a good amount of polygons
Medium resolution for those who can take a lot more than a minor resolution
High definition resolution for those who can meet today’s modern requirement
New abilities, skills, magic and returned original favorites
New items, equipment and returned original favorites
Everything from Ocarina of Time will be put in, mostly
New enemies and unique ways of attacking
More difficult puzzles to solve, sometimes too hard!
A storyline that goes along with the story of Ocarina of Time
Differently textured original shields to avoid religions (shields in oot had Muslim images)
Remixed, returned and some original music
New non player characters
Navi has returned! (Navi is able to be turned on or off before the game starts, we know how annoying she is to you gamers )
Z-targeting, more than one enemy too!
New combo system; also in conjunction with Z-tergeting!
That’s not even everything on the secret list I have
The release date is unknown, but I will inform you of updates than percentages
From now on read "To do", it will tell you status updates on what we are doing!
-
To do: (as of 11/5/2006)
Continue rigging Adult Link and search for programmers as well as artists
Also, find the Unicorn fountain scene and rip the room model from it
-
NOTE: This game is not an official title by Nintendo nor are we going for profit.
This is a fan-made game intended for two game developers to get a chance in the gaming industry for future game development.
Nintendo owns all copyrights of everything Nintendo related including Zelda, but not limited to the content we create for this fan-game.
We do not claim any copyright to this game other than the content we create that Nintendo hasn’t
Lastly, we would love to hear your input or questions about this game!
Every little question, feedback and concern makes the game even better for everyone!
Do not:
-
Ask when the game will be done
Ask for demo's
..more later
-
We are accepting:
-
Texture artists - Open
3D modelers - Open
Programmers - Open
Zelda fans for story-line and game-play contradictions (you must know Zelda 64 very well - Open -)

Update: Here is a picture I did for the development of this short game :)
I love to show my work, so here it is!
This is in its early EARLY stages of development, I hope this make the Unicorn Fountain a game reality!
PLEASE give me your thoughts, ideas and if you have been involved with Nintendo's speculation on this area in this game! :D
Also, feel free to give me critique or even ideas :D
I have attached a concept idea of what the Unicorns will look like.
Link will be discussed between the original Zelda 64 look or his new Twilight Princess look to keep originality.
Bear in mind, this is the concept stage, nothing has hit programming or even 3D modeling yet :P
If ANYONE wants to contribute, please feel free to contact me at:
"janetmerai[at]hotmail.com" on MSN Messenger :)
Update: My girlfriend has made two versions of the Unicorn Fountain, and they are attached :)
Room designs are being made by me, my girlfriend is making 3D models :D
Enjoy!

I must say this does look like an interesting idea, how are you going to implement it - rom hack? Idea seems sound - quite good scetches... yeah go for it.

Me and my girlfriend are making it from scratch :)
She has programming skills and knows how to make games :P
So its pretty much up to us.
She said if she could learn how, she probably could.
And here are some snap-shots from the ACTUAL Zelda 64 game to let you all know where this non-modified game takes place :)
This is in Zora's Domain, under the Ice as Adult Link, and I am sure you know that infamous "sealed cave" entrance :P
Stay tuned for more :D

The first design coloration of the Entrance at its latest, for new technology, has been designed, drawn and colored by me :)
This is the entrance to the Unicorn Fountain sealed off by Nintendo!
But in the project, it will NO longer be sealed! :D
Stay tuned for more updates!

Hey again people!
I went ahead and modeled out one of the Unicorns, and I must say, it didn't turn out that bad! :)
Anyways, here are two pictures of the model :D
Stay tuned for more updates!

Hi, you probably know about the new project taking place called:
"Zelda 64 Project: Unicorn Fountain and Triforce"
The storyline, levels and designs will be secret for now.
Long ago back when Nintendo revealed in a Magazine about a strange area with Kid Link in a Fairy Fountain looking place with three Unicorn looking statues in a ritual looking formation, it did not strike many users like it does now.
The game never featured the removed Unicorn Fountain and is not obtainable at all, to every Zelda fan nationwide; unless someone miracuously finds it.
Zelda fans every-where from around the country have tried countless beta codes just to find this removed area from Zelda 64.
Roms and actual Nintendo 64 System cartridges have been scoured and hacked for any information even piecing a word about the Unicorn Fountain, but nothing was found at all, just speculation.
Sadly, the Unicorn Fountain is no more and only archived within Nintendo's storage of games from the past, only a miracle to allow us to even see this phenomenal area in action.
But now; me and my girlfriend came up with an idea to boost our chances to get into the gaming industry. I was browsing these actual forums looking for DS emulation and found hi-res texturing to my favorite Zelda game of all time.
I enjoyed it and came across the Unicorn Fountain pictures again and gained curiosity. My girlfriend is a programmer and artist, so I asked her if she wanted to collaborate and make an existing Unicorn Fountain.
She agree'd and we are both set on making the Unicorn Fountain a gaming experience for all!
With provided screenshots, I will email Nintendo for any other information regarding it, we are set to re-create one of Zelda's most historical and phenomenal areas ever to be created.
However, as much as we both WANT to make this game, a helping hand from you fans would be highly appreciated :)
We are currently looking for:
Programmers
Zelda fans who can gives us tips on what to improve to stay true to the original game
Beta Testers
Hi-res and Low-res texture artists
3D Modelers - Model ripping is a plus (models can be improved with 3D programs if taken from Zelda 64)
Assistant designers
If anything else is not mentioned and you have the skill and motivation to help us, please do so, we welcome any help that is offered.
YOU WILL BE CREDITED FOR YOUR WORK!
Please email "janetmerai[at]hotmail.com" to contact me about information on how you can help out; any emails asking when this game will be done or what it is going to be like WILL be ignored!
The storyline, design and overall game can and will change at any-time, so do not expect this game to be this way, and then turn out that way.
Thank you for listening! :)
When the game is finished, it will be released.

Hehe, don't count on being able to inject your own models, even worse levels and correct scene data.
Also, that annex had never been proven to be anything more than it is, let alone entrance to the Unicorn Fountain.

While at the subject of getting data into OoT, is anything known about the actual exit data? They're not part of the object sets/are not actors as far as I know, so, if nothing's known, changing or even adding them isn't possible without more research on the room/scene format...

Looks great, keep it up - Don't care if the fountain is in Zoras domain or not its a reproduction of a beta part of the game. What do we suppose the purpose of the Unicorn Fountain is? hrm possibly an upgrade of sorts? or a new tool perhaps.
If you are successful I hope you'll continue your work reproducing other parts of the game which were removed.
Janet Merai
July 27th, 2006, 04:03
That my be a good option :)
Its great for our portfolio too :D
Can you tell me what other parts were removed from the game?

This is when you access the once sealed cave within Zora's Domain :)
Picture attached.
I took a nice screenshot in a position, this isn't meant that once you walk into it in the game it will look this this.
This is just a general idea of the room.

you sed 3D "Modelers - Model ripping is a plus (models can be improved with 3D programs if taken from Zelda 64)"
first of all if you want to give the feelin it belongs in OOT you suld not improve the models.
and the fountain is alredy accesible flying over the iner wall of the castle realy near from were you meat Zelda ther is also a model of the triforce used for the animation that folows since the models are loaded befor the animation starts
the trick is to Fly over the wall with the hold L to fly cheat and then fall directly on the triforce wich will drop you on the base of a room with four unicorns the game will crash if you trie to move

Nothing really changed except the view and a few more polygons :)

These are 3 rough screenshots right after I modeled the third room :)
Please be aware ANY of these rooms can change or even be removed.

Can someone PLEASE explain this more, or even screenshots please?
I went to Zelda's Courtyard, where you meet Zelda for the first time, and flew over the inner wall. I saw the Triforce's three beams which are colored blue, and saw NO Triforce.
I hovered with the hold L to float and dropped in-between the three blue rays used for the Triforce animation.
I dropped and only landed where the castle guards are who do not move nor have an animation to them, no Unicorn room to be found Oo;
Can someone PLEASE help? This may help me a LOT more :)

July 30th, 2006, 04:24
Yeah, I tried to do it to. There is NO triforce, and nothing happens when you fall through the rays. Do you have to fall all the way down to the pitch black, far enough for it to restart you in the begining of the room again?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this take years to complete? Unless you're planning on doing a shorter game than usual games (like OoT).
Don't take this wrong, this project is VERY interesting and I would love nothing more than to play another Zelda game.
On the programmer point, perhaps you wouldn't mind telling what exactly it is that you need help with. There are many programmers here on EmuTalk, but not everyone can do 3D graphics. So maybe you *could* elaborate a little bit...
I also find that you are taking the whole thing with remote desktop thing a little too far... MSN's remote assistance lets you view and control a remote computer IF they agree to that. And to my knowledge, the ones whose computer is controlled can still control it and terminate the session if necessary.

The more we work on it, the better it is :)
We are not aiming for a rush, we are aiming for something...interesting.
With me being the creative person behind the game, this shouldn't be too far off, especially since I have great design skills :P
And the remote assistance, maybe I did lol XD
And about programmers, i'm not sure if I want a group of them.
I've heard horror stories of programmers working together X_X;

Don't mean to nitpick your terms but If I were interested (yep I am capable of this sort of work) I wouldn't join see why:
"If you agree to help out with this project, you agree to use remote desktopping and the permission for me and Sona, or any user who suspects malicious use, to report you to authorities. Your IP address will be asked privatly and given to not one person and stays confidential for remote reasons. This ensures everyone is safe and does not get abused."
Um, yeah... rule number one when recruiting people to volunteer, never write threatening things like this as you want to give them an incentive for joining your project. No only that how likely is it that the person would be doing malicious things anyway? I find your logic questionable.
Remote desktop is useless for debuging games because it has a slow refresh rate, depending on internet connection becomes even worse, you can debug GUI's but not moving images.
This is a rather unorthodox method to rely on for debugging - the professionals tend to stick with detailed bug reports and screenshots and try to reproduce it on their system.

But as you know, it is the programming part that takes most of the time. The more you add, the more programming work and the longer it takes to make the game. And I'm sure you could work on it like, forever, when creating it, as long as you have fun, but others want to play it as well.

Thanks for listening to me Janet, now your volunteer post should attract more attention. My only issue was the seemingly threatening wording which is detrimental to your cause, considering you're going to be friends with these people (they are volunteers after all) its best to take a less dogmatic approach to it - Remote desktopping wasn't my problem it was the wording.
Getting people to volunteer is difficult enough, got to make them want to join and not feel threatened by their workmates. If you were giving them pay you could treat them like however you like but volunteers tend to scoot away when you treat them badly :D
Mr obvious strikes again. In any case I approve of this again now.

Can someone elaborate more on this?
There is another user who is not very good in English who gave me HORRIBLE explanations on how to get into the room...
What rom version? Master Quest or the original one?
If anything, even if I can see the textures moving or the game crashes, I can rip the textures from that room and even enhance this on the project.

I also had been wanting to remake one of the zelda games for the 64, i have experimented around a bit with modeling that style in 3d, and i like to think that im really good at it. im already kinda working for on 3d models for a kingdom hearts remake so my time is limited but i know that i can definitely contribe whatever ive got to the team. If you want me to model a character from the zelda series for you first i would be more than happy to, it wont be textured though cuz photoshop isnt wanting to work but i should have cs2 very soon so that wont be an ongoing problem.
ill try to get a sample for all you guys here on the boards to see, i sent janet merai an email with some of the stuff i have been working on, i think i might do an oot style of link as a wolf from loz:tp

I am back! :D
This project is not dead nor will it die :P
Me and my girlfriend have been trying to get the engine to work, so I have found an engine to create a 2D based game on it, through its still in the works, here is a test Zelda game I made! :D
Note: You cannot do anything but move around, the left part of the room somehow let you pass through it and I am still tinkering around to get it to stop you from moving.
There is a second room but I disabled it for now.
Anywho, the zip file is attached :D
Oh, and that room is part of the starting plots to:
The Legend of Zelda: The Unicorn's Lair
Please remember, the artwork is not "A+" standard like most commercial games.
This is a test to see what I want in this game :)
So do not expect high quality work as of yet, it is still in the works XD
Heck, even the controls are wonky, but they do something :)
Controls:
Use the arrow keys, up|down|left|right, to move Link.
There are no attacks or any of the sort, this is juset a test :)

I was not aiming for impressions, I was just showing my progress, sheesh people =/
If I am going to get that kind of feedback, I might as well not show my progress at all...
Edit: A screenshot of the current programmed beta has been taken in-game :)
This was a test to place things and see how things worked out.
No menu, no HUD or his usual "green-wear" yet, I still have to work a LOT of stuff out :)
I learned basic in Dark Basic somewhat :P
(11/6/2006) - Edit: Work is being done on rooms right now, here is a current shot of one of them and which happens to be a beta of the Unicorn's Lair :D

I remember a member here speaking about a Unicorn Fountain existing somewhere around the Courtyard, either Zelda's Courtyard or the Castle Courtyard.
Has anyone been inside of the room, even if it locked up?

Currently, I found a 3D engine that will work for me and in the progress of creating animations for the game with the 3D model I rigged :P
Here is a screenshot of a render in 3DS Max 9 that I deformed of Link moving!
This is finally looking bright for me as I have learned some basic programming :)
Now, we shall see major progress when I actually start programming a ton of stuff in :P
There were some questions about a site being down and a downloadable game.
Unfortunatly, this game went through a lot of work to find a proper 3D engine, which I JUST found after about four weeks of trial and error :P
No downloads are available, the other screenshots were ones I took in some 3D programs but I found to lack what I needed most =/
Now we can see the future of this fan-game and hopefully some employers will look at this as a strong portfolio even though it is fan-based :P

Hmmm.... I love the idea. I don't really know about a sealed entrance. could someone tell me where it is? Like, I know it's in Zora's Domain, but I have to see it in the game so I can write a better storyline. Just.... could someone give me directions? I need to make a description of the entrance and work from that, because I'm totally lost in a sea of words. I'm also caught up in tons of schoolwork, and the point that I want the Wii, and I can write a great storyline in two weeks, starting a few days ago. (I'm at Ganon's tower at the moment on my gamecube, so I will have to use my emulator.) Thanks for reading my long and bantering post about a story.

Please do not ever give up on this! The project looks really promising, and would definitely be the best ever fan based zelda game ever created. I destroyed every zelda game from start to finish on every platform with every secret/heart (except twilight princess which I'm still playing, Wii rules!) including 'some', not all, of the fan based rom hacks. As a huge fan of zelda games, like many of us, it would be awesome to see an entire zelda game professionally done by the people for the people, and hit us by surprise. And who knows, if it's good enough people would donate to the cause, and/or video game developers might take notice at your hard work. Keep up the good work!

You speak a lot of truth Bighead :)
I have no plans on canning this project :P
In reality, this entire project was a simple curiosity out of wandering around the Unicorn Fountain and just being able to walk around, that's it.
But I had extensive ideas of being a game developer and what if Nintendo noticed my hard work to break into the industry?
I know modders modify models to make them look high-definition with pointless graphics...but I wanted to change the face of what employers think when they hire developers.
I wanted to do something that no other fan really attempts to do...make a complete game from start to finish, whichever team, by hand without the push of publishers dictating what they want in the game without your say.
I want to create Zelda, this new project, in a way that marks the game for what it truly is, not rushed for the holidays so Nintendo could earn some extra bucks.
I still need programmers though, I have the storyline and game-play in mind, I just need a set of programmers.
Again, I have no plans to cancel this project.
Note: Developers usually depend on donations or some kind of "user feedback" to continue on or they threaten the project to be halted.
Its just an excuse to say your project is well liked when it is cruddy and just horrible.
I want my game to be well-made and to show it off so others will notice me and I can have a CHANCE to get into the industry.
To others:
Please do NOT tell me I will not get into the industry at all.
This is a CHANCE to break into the industry. Its a do-or-die project that will take time and planning, its not like I am going to get everything right on the first try.
People are negative and jealous, so they hurt what they like most.
This project was created from interest, not investment.
It would be nice to have donations and user help, but it seems I am the only one which may take even LONGER to make :P
So here's hopes that I can do something with little programming knowledge XP

Being a Zelda fanatic myself, I remember all those Unicorn Fountian pictures and suprised not to see them in the game itself!

Hi people!
I have been majorly busy with work and I have some free-time available :)
I've tinkered with the game project some, but I am still at a loss in programming.
If anyone is able to help me with the programming, even if it is Dark Basic Professional, I really need help on this :D
I need programmers people.
I can do level editing, menu's and so on, I just need a programmers help :)
To get this game rolling on the ball, i've taken the liberty of going back to a 2D based representation of the game :)
2D game development tools out there are a great necessity to get my idea out and rolling to 3D :D

Something to consider:
Since you're basing your idea largely on Ocarina of Time myth and legend, I suggest making the game look as much like OoT as you can.
The ladder you made, for example, does not look "OoT". OoT uses a two-dimensional model for it's ladders, and then a texture to either side with transparencies where rungs aren't.
Just an idea. You've made great progress with your modeling, but I doubt you'll get much help from anyone with a knowledge of 2D programming (I could have made that demo you released in VB express!).
You might also consider getting someone to work with you on texturing, so that you can devote most of your time to modeling.

Thank you :)
What would you like to help on with?
I am working on ripping more 3D models such as Tektites, I have the sword, sheild and other accessories, I am trying to render a picture in 3DS Max that shows what I am going for without programming :)
I also ripped the textures as well, if I needed to, I could alter the original textures and make new ones for other areas :)
What is anyone looking to help with this project?
I am working on ripping the models out, fixing them and making the game's idea and functionality.
Enzo Dragon
January 7th, 2007, 07:49
Do you plan to replicate the entire world of OoT and then add on to it? That is, the main world, not dungeons.
If not, what are you taking out?
Janet Merai
January 8th, 2007, 04:20
I plan to replicate the entire world, but close off sections that I am not finished with.
I want to impliment everything, but for now I want to focus on blocking most of it out.
I plan to start out in Kokiri Forest and then the adventure starts there, just as you did in Ocarina of Time :)
After I get Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Feild done, I am going to put all of my energy into making rooms, traps, dungeons and so on within the new dungeon I originally planned, the Unicorn's Lair :)
Other dungeons will include the Temple of Light, Ice Temple and possibly an Earth Temple too :)
Any other creative stuff will have pictures taken in render to show my ideas :P
I realized something while talking to my girlfriend, and she didn't tell me:
What you want may have to revolve around abilities you are not fond of nor have, but create what you know how to and show it off, because someone is obviously going to find it interesting even if you don't
:)

Janet Merai
January 9th, 2007, 22:42
Wow, thank you Djipi :D
If you could create the textures for me, I know I am an artist, but I am working hard on design, 3D modeling and getting the bits and pieces of the ripped Ocarina of Time models put together and to be rigged/animatable :P
Not to mention, when I rip a 3D model from the game, they are in bits and pieces, and I have to attach a lot of seperate objects/planes together just to get them looking decent, then I have to weld vertices to make the model able to animate :P
Anywho, it would CERTAINLY help a LOT if you could help with textures and make them altered as well :D
I need to keep most of the textures in 64 bit to keep the feel of the original game, high-resolution and next-generation specifications can be touched WAY later :)
If you want to help me out, Djipi, we are going to be doing a lot of water/ice based textures :)
Enzo Dragon
January 10th, 2007, 07:39
If you're just ripping the models from the original game, you may as well rip the textures, too, assuming you're going for the feel of the original game. So why bother re-making them?
Janet Merai

As I am ripping the 3D models, I am also ripping the textures too :)
What I meant is that Djipi can alter the "original" textures for certain levels or make ones originally for this game.
I am keeping this game the same way it was designed, but I am just altering or making new textures for new areas and this dungeon as it is not in the original game :)
Djipi

i can do that , it's ok but i must test it too. To texture somethink i must see i real time what they look ingame. So if i can modify texture and change it alone , it's ok for me ;-)

Try posting a bit there. Also, if you need any help modeling, I can make a few things for you. My models are very high detailed, as I use them in my Oblivion mod, so they might be useless to you, but if you want them they are yours. Also, tools for editing the rom image is what programmers should focus on. That would be most benifical to the mod. PM me with any modeling request you might have. Also, I'm looking at the roms in notepad and seeing what I can manually edit. So far I've had no success with Project64 running an edited text rom.
