Installed Project 64 - vid/audio stuttering&flickering :(

I used to use Project 64 with no problems, but now I have reinstalled it and every ROM I try has problems.

The Rom loads up but the sound judders and flickers, and the vid isn't smooth either.

It's unuseable.

Any ideas?

I'm not good on these problems, but to speed up the process of someone else helping.

What version of Project 64 are you currently using,
Your computer specs,
What plug ins are you using,
Also what games have you tried.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A50 laptop.

Centrino processor ~1.5ghz, and 512mb RAM - not a games machine, but surely enough to handle N64 emulators...

I am using version 1.6 with no additional plugins.

Tried Mario 64, Mariokart, Blastcorps, Wave Race, Zelda, PaperMario...

All games are ".rom" and in a folder next to the emulator, which I call "ROMS"

possibly system not fast enough or power saving issues
what's pj's fps counter showing?

FPS was crazy, like 120, but then I changed the options and now it's steady around 60FPS
