TOKYO (AP) — Nintendo said Sunday it is seriously considering abandoning the United States production of its Gamecube video-game machine.

"We must admit that stopping the production of the hardware in the United States is an option we are looking into," said Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo President of Japan. "We need more time to make a decision, and we will announce it then."

He would not say when the announcement was expected. Analysts say concentrating Nintendo's business on handheld games and on Gamecube in Japan makes sense and could help reverse the fortunes of the company, which has been losing money in the United States since Nintendo 64 (which catered to a prodominantly younger audience.)

The idea that Nintendo should give up making consoles in America has been around for some time. Making games for the Game Boy Advance alone in the U.S. is positive for Nintendo. Nintendo is strong on developing handheld games and accessorys.

Wow could this be true?

dude its nintendo's faults anyway. maybe they should try to target young audiences in japan and mature audiences for america or both. Nintendo did a mistake on that part. well if this is true ill welcome PS2 in my door anyday :D but handheld stuff is good. nintendo seems to do good with that. they should have a gameboy ultra with 64-bit out in 3 or 4 years maybe? ;)

Smash Bros Melee is rated Teen. Eternal Darkness wll probably be M. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark was Nintendo/Rare, so I don't know if that counts...

reznor, if u mention PD and GE, y didnt u say CBFD?

my original question was what is the most mature game that nintendo developed by themselves? But seeing the lack of answers, there probably werent any...

ok who thought up this idea of Mature Computer games?

because be honest none of them are particulary that "mature" :P

adi

If you want 'mature' I'd say something like deus ex. If you want controversy which appeals to 7 year olds, I'd say something like state of emergency, damn that was awful.

DuDe

Well, Metroid was rather mature, wasn`t it?

pj64er

in the videogame industry, anything with gore/blood or has somewhat revealing characters is called mature.

how some people feel that these make the game better...i dont know.

`Mature` is a difficult word to use to describe a videogame.. Even mature gameplayers have to find the kid in them to reach out for that joypad..

personally there a few game categories

1. Guaranteed Success but normally incredibly disappointing(FF8,FF9, MGS2)
2. Overly Publicised game which is trying to be controversial but isn't (State of Emergency)
3. Games which got rave reviews in the magazine but are shit
4. Underrated games which still got a good review but seemingly went nowhere (Silent Bomber, Alundra)
5. Shit Sequels (Alundra 2, PSOVer.2)
6. The same game but as a Sequel (FF8, FF9)
7. The Horrifically delayed game so sales suffer because of it (Advance Wars in Europe, PSO for the GC)

please feel free to add to them :)

Well, I'm not sure about sales suffering, but the horrifically delayed game includes just about every thing Nintendo.
