Normmatt's DeSmuME Build - (Current Version 0.3.4 - 04/24/2006) - This build adds save state and preliminary SRAM save support
http://normmatt.com/desmume/binary.zip
No increase games in it at all. Again, please look at above more carefully in black BOLD! :)
No complaint here, please! Have fun test it with any games for save state and preliminary SRAM save support yourself, ok ? Bye!
Nazi Moderator Edit: Please post all emulators spawned out of DeSmuMe compatibility tests here.

Want to know who is this person?
I speak with him already with some question and here it is:
(Normmatt @ May 4 2006, 01:31 AM)
I'm still new to c/c++ and emulator coding in general but ill be looking into the gfx portion of the code sometime, most likely when i get a faster computer.
Now, be sure to congratulated him or wish him the best of luck if you want to, huh ? ;):P

If I'm not mistaken, this is not legal. The source to DeSmuME was released under the GNU GPL, which states that anyone who distributes an modified version of the program must also distribute the modified source.
The link should be probably removed until normmat releases the source.

No character onscreen can very well be a graphics problem, you may also understand that by playable, they mean that you can play the game, it goes ingame and you get to contro lthe character, not that you can finish it.

That´s not an excuse to use emulation to pirate a system that is currently alive, maybe you can save some money and get a DS imported, if you like it so much.
Be also aware that because of the "WarezKid" atittude some coders of the NDS scene are considering on placing a lock on their emulators so ppl will not be able to play dumped roms on them and stop supporting Nintendo.

Sigh...the full DesMuME 0.3.4 can't load the savestate from first DesMuME 0.3.4 ( The version before full version 0.3.4 ).
normmatt quotes:
Some good news Im releasing a new version of DeSmuME which has the same features as my last build except the SRAM saving/loading is gone as it was causing some problems. The main new features are FAT emulation, Key Config dialog and proper X/Y/DEBUG key implementations and BANK A framebuffer emulation.
the 0.3.4 i released on my blog was using the latest cvs from the desmume team and the last 0.3.4 release was using the code from yopyop himself so somewhere along the line something must of screwed up so the next release will be made from the same sources as the last 0.3.4 release
We will wait for the next release. Remember, it will not improving the roms commercial games to be playable at all, no...not yet anyway. :)

Yeah I probably am lazy, but for the last 6 months I seriously have had no viable opportunity to do anything at all on my project simply because I had homework and assignments going all the time. But yeah sorry for the off topicism (my words exactly) :( Though technically this is related to the compatibility list part of this thread or at least will be as soon as I get a clean XML file written up based on it. Expect an update in the iDeaS Compatibility Reference Thread (http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=32533), within a few days.
I spent two days literally gathering covers and info on the last 125 roms released while I have been "lazy" so to speak and I have also spent several days implementing and debugging/fixing and problems with my new search functions that really should boost any interest in my project....I am trying to make up for it now and trying and get to the point where even if I was being lazy I would still be able to update it on a regular basis...

Expect an update in the iDeaS Compatibility Reference Thread (http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=32533), within a few days.
I did put a smiley next too it. Mostly I was teasing you hehehe
LOL holly smokes hehehe anyhow I think the nice thing about your collection of covers #'s and game information is you can organize it a bit then use Rockmangames 'information' to update your data. Have you set up a nice little data base to create data bases for game compatibility? I think it's almost a batch process really once you get the 'does it work or not' information.
You never cease to amaze do you Rockman  ....it's no wonder why you chose that alias (aka Rockmangames). Yes I really would like that txt file you spoke about if I can get it from you if it's not too much trouble...I'm never sure if that's drooling or.. something weirder... :D
Sorry Cyberman......I won't try to go off topic again....:( I am a good forum individual...lolYou are far from being banned. You have demonstrated remarkable composure under my teasing stress and we just happened to run out of Rocks errr Rockmen to throw ;) LOL
However on the subject of compatibility DS wise. After Rockmangames extensive testing. Is it possible to better catagorize compatibility issues? For example touch screen input doesn't work touch screen graphics doesn't work 3d graphics do not work 2d graphics do not work. intro works crashes on menu. etc. This data might be useful for the emulator developer to find specific areas of incompatibility. Typing of errors in games etc. might also help people understand 'what' the problem is etc.
Some feed back here if I have fallen off the deep end. Also welcome the new mod for this forum WhiteX. :D

(Firstly this is no doubt off topic...so SORRY!! lol)
Cyberman Rockmangames is not a toy....He is a very respectable member of this forum and should not be thrown around....;)
I am fully aware of when or not there is any tension upon my actions and my friendly Moderator...lol I have found though that words are simply in-adequet to voice my message sufficiently in a way that gets a laugh and shows my true opinion on the matter.....Though Cyberman is capable of this, which I find a great talent as I have to use LOTS of emoticons on MSN just so I don't confuse my friends. :(
I will take what you said about my project as a compliment so thanks Cyb!!:bouncy: Yeah I think what you said about the whole batch thing is like what I am doing....Is the term robotic/automatic perhaps the right word/s for it?? Well anyway....it's just time consuming, adding information into the XML databases....mostly just PLAYABILITY 1-5 and STATUS NOTES this and that, but it only gets annoying when you have 500+ games tested by those wonderful people like Rockmangames (as I am sure he is not the only one who contributes even though he seems on top of it) as I think 500+ games would now take several hours (I'll time myself this time just to get an idea) and the only real effort is when a new game comes out....atm I am using SERIAL, GAME NAME, ROM SIZE, and a game cover formated as a thumbnail 150x135, and a 450x405 large size cover when I can get them....I have only uploaded the thumbnail images as I only have 56k connection....and none of them will work until I upload the new updated flash file with SEARCH FUNCTIONS!!! lol
I also got ALL release information on roms released (based on PocketHeaven) in a Word Doc as a quick reference instead of using the site as it tends to hold all the information I need....I know I have been advised to use rom release info such as CRC32 and that...but my compat list is based on games rather than rom releases (as such where there are 2 rom releases of Super Mario 64 DS (U) my list only shows 1) which causes some obvious problems....;)
Oh and cyb don't worry....the drooling is out of admiration nothing ILLEGAL as such...LOL
Hmm...I wonder when did I say I thought I was banned....I mean I got growled just today at NGEmu because I posted a quick note about NeeDS being released in their iDeaS 1.0.0.8c Screenshot Thread!! lol ;) I mean sure a little out of place...But some people there were seriously saying things like "We're gonna be doomed if iDeaS dies!!" so I thought the knowledge of a new emulator that's faster than DeSmuME would cheer them up!!:D silly people lol But apparently there had already been a post about it in the "Release Thread" or something so I got growled.... but I didn't get banned for it......At least some of the stuff I rant on about here is remotely relevant to the Threads....or at least I try to make it like that.
Yeah....my compat notes are a bit crappy I know....I'm just being lazy I guess....Hmm perhaps I should follow Rockmangames's testing notes a bit more!! =]
I really should be posting this sort of stuff in my own Thread.....but I guess when I get going....I can't help it!! lol
Hmm I am really gonna need to start making some documentation on how I do everything.....Plus maybe a tutorial on how to navigate in my compat list too (though most of it is pretty self explanatary really).

Low Lines. I recomend you organize your information a bit into a neutral format. If for example you use an XML data base you should use meta data for your Image data base of the covers. If there is no cover the data base obviously won't contain said image (well DOH). Point being is you should be able to write a program to building your data you need for your flash info from this. You can have seperate data bases that use to 'primary' release number as the reference and allow you to just add the information with a cut paste and a bit of editing.
I suppose I'm too programming oriented :D

I am actually using the SERIAL NUMBER as my point of reference that links them all together though I cut it down to the middle part since it is only necessary.
ie ASMP,A4DJ,AVJJ, etc
If you visit the Nintendo.co.jp website they actualy organise their game info according to the serial ie instead of using complex php like the US Nintendo site does.
This may sound a bit dumb coming from someone who dwells so much in XML but what's meta data?? I've heard of that term but I am no genius with words :( . Anyway ATM covers are named according to the serial (ie ASMP.jpg) and are loaded into the Flash whenever the rom details are reset. And I can always throw in an if statement in the case the image cannot be found. I'm sorry just explain it a little bit simpler Cyberman. It's funny because although I may be a bit of a novice around here....the IT class I have just finished barely scraped how to design a simple HTML web page!!

It behoves one not to use arcane language. Err :D Meta Data is Data about Data. IE "This is the cover for S# blah blah" the data about the data (which happens to be the image). is it's the cover. See? :)
Anyway ATM covers are named according to the serial (ie ASMP.jpg) and are loaded into the Flash whenever the rom details are reset. Shocking truth schools teach less in more time these days. LOL. I'm shocked. Of course the term IT came into being AFTER I graduated from a university. They instead called it IS (Information Systems).
HTML still sucks even though it's under gone much improvement over the years. I prefer using XML because it's a more rigorously put together language, and had intellegent features added in (such as the nifty template features and parsing features etc.). In summary you didn't miss much although you need to know enough to set up a basic page, believe it or not that is ALL you need, because you can use XML and other more flexible (and less anoying too) things to make the page useful. I HATE the idiotic way tables are made using HTML GAH (mutter mutter).
Now If you have it all organized as you say, why is it taking you so long, it should be like 3 minutes to take a rockmangames notice and convert it to a data base update :D

Hmm...try 5 hours :( I timed myself....that's the time it took to write up a fresh iDeaS 1.0.0.8 Compat List and this was just using a blank copy and changing 2 nodes per game.....I and I already subtracted my break/stuff around time from that 5 hours too....And I was being really robotic about it. Vertically Cascaded both documents, went from 0001-0463 in Rockmangames list and searched for them by keywords in the other. Maybe I just suck....though 3 mins would be something to brag about!!
That meta data I have seen before....when I look at other peoples examples and that....though I just recognise a particular node as each thing, which relies on keeping a strict ordering of XML data...here's an example
<compat>
<game>
<serial>AHBE</serial>
<status>minor graphic errors & slow</status>
<playability>1</playability>
<name>4 In 1 - Monopoly, Boggle, Yatzee & Battleship (U)</name>
</game>
</compat>
I think it may differ a little when you are using XML with Flash...Though I can't be sure.....I am just cutting out anything I don't need to save on filesize and time.
And with the Covers....in my Flash file I call for them like this....
this.loadMovie("../images/covers/small/"+serial+".jpg","cover",1);
// loadMovie is an external import function for things such as images and other flash files
// in the brackets there are 3 fields (url link, new movieclip name, depth);
Hopefully this is relevant....And I'll also point out that I am trying to make the XML files as SIMPLE as I can so in the case someone like sigloiv have any interest in taking it upon themselves to update a compat list (*wink wink* lol)....It shouldn't be too hard for them to work it out and/or adapt.
Yeah luckily I have made it my job to jump ahead of these IT lessons in my own time. Or right now I might be just another n00b asking for X game :bouncy: .
Here's a laugh too....next semester I am gonna have my first lesson on Flash and Actionscript EVER  (About time)
Anyway today I am gonna get stuck into the DeSmuME compat list....though I only got a few hours because it's my friends birthday today. :holiday: But I should get that done some time tomorrow and then it should just be fixing up any tiny problems in my code and then I'll be able to show off what this lazy bugger has been doing for the past week

Oh and I've noticed that nearly 30%-40% of games according to Rockmangames get the same game error (ie "Unable to read the data. Please turn the power off and reinsert the Game Card")
I'm wondering if it's not blaintly obvious to anyone else but am I right in assuming that it comes up with this error because it is trying to write to the save RAM memory??
I know a lot of games have ongoing save data that update frequently on an auto-matic basis so I is it safe to assume we got 200+ or so games that want to save but can't because the emulators aren't coded to handle save ram data??
Anyway that's just my assumption and it's a new status issue I've added into my compat database because I am very sure that this is the problem...although it is a very n00bish area of emulation, IT IS a major issue with a lot of the games (just refer to all of Rockmangames compat tests) if save data can be properly emulated there might be one hell of an increase in compatibility....anybody wanna argue/verify this assumption?? Correct me if I'm wrong?? Nice work Rockmangames btw, as well to everyone else who is contributing into this thread here (and all the compat ones at that)

DeSmuME 0.3.4 XML List is done and it only took 4 hours (oddly 1 less than the iDeaS one)
I just wanna do a little bit more to the Flash File and I'll stick it up on my site...particularly I gotta get some form of credits showing cos I really hate to not give those who have helped no credit for the work they've done  (Particularily Rockmangames)
Though Rockmangames, I must say there definitely needs to be some revising on testing which I'll make a post for, that'll hopefully also revise upon my own status issues so people like Cyberman can tell us if there needs to be any bits we need work on....More on that later....Though I do appreciate all the effort Rockmangames (and people like him) put into these threads and all I wanna do is help and make them better at what they do (and not offend anyone in the process)....
:bouncy: but I think terms such as "fully playable" need to be revised, because they may mislead readers into the wrong assumption a game is properly emulated. I think I did a fairly good job at analysing all the compatibility info in this thread.....though there's most definitely going to be some argument with *some* of the games, some of which I have tested myself and got different results (as it happens with emulation =] )
Keep up the great work everbody =] More news from me in my own thread next time

PJ64 is up to 1.6, and 1.7 is in beta stage!
Anyway, version control may differ between projects, i.e., DeSmuME 1.0 may be released before PJ64 1.7. The autor can just consider there has been major changes and update major version number... or so.

Improvements:
- Added one key in order to play with some rom
- Improved speed emulazione the emulazione (little 3 or 4 frame)
- Improved the compatibility with the rom
Sorry this was an Italian post translated in Google (stupid thing :( ). But you generally get the idea. hmm...that issue so common it is not funny...my recommendation to developers who seek to increase compatibility (or at least get roms to boot beyond the intros) look into the save ram data, though I wish I could help out :( . I swear with the DeSmuME 0.3.4 compat list alone there were literally 200+ with that issue. Basically all the Not Playable games are down with this issue.
Anyways I wanna see which games have changed, in fact I'll try and whip up a comparing Flash program thingo so you can view 2 compat lists at the same time. I think as Diablow had orginially mentioned....It shouldn't take long, I'll keep most of the code from the main list and just adjust it into a table view (ie like excel).

I suppose it's up to you Rockmangames?? Since you are the main goer here...should it be DISCONTINUED??

June 30th, 2006, 16:02
that would be fine with iDeaS since it's source hasn't been released yet....but because there's liable to be heaps of little programming freaks out there messing with DeSmuME's source there's no gurantee there will be any order kept with release numbers....if you get what i mean....
ie (Normmatt chose to use 0.3.4 & NDS chose to use 0.3.6) it's a great idea, but there may be some issues if anything like the above happens.

NDS (the author) was on about an option in the emu that enables this new key he's implemented, as I understand it, all games must like have a lock or something on them unless that key is brought forth.
Here's his steps in doing it....
For sure rom there is one key to insert in order to make to work them. Here the key:
1 -- To open the rom
2 -- Emulation -- Execute
3 -- Emulation -- Pauses
4 -- Emulation -- Key rom
5 -- Emulation -- Execute
6 -- Emulation -- Pauses
7 -- Emulation -- Execute
This key could not work on all the rom. The key it has been tried with the rom of pokemon.
I'm sort of busy right now, but for starters try
pokemon fushigi no dungeon - ao no kyuujotai (j)
as it is the rom he used in his example. obviously this isn't meant for convenince as it's just to show compat can be improved.

Rockmangames,
I think it doesn't matter whether or not a game is to everyone's liking, we are simply seeing if the compatibility has indeed increased and to what extent.....Though I haven't found any other games yet that do nothing new, exepect those Nintendogs games, I managed to get a brief scrambled screen before it went black.
Anyway somebody call out if they find any others, you can use my list to compare XD http://llref.emutalk.net finally give it a purpose.
Extra Note on NDS's DeSmuME Build:
Also, I was reading the original thread (Google translated), and version 0.3.6 may become it's own emulator (meaning a new name as well). And hopefully there will be a little more information on the build and it's author to come later.
[EDIT]
Actually it seems the emulator author NDS was being harassed too much, or was having some troubles. He says he's no longer working on his project?? Hopefully this isn't true...
[EDIT 2]
Author NDS is releasing the sources for his build on Monday at GBArl.it (http://www.gbarl.it), along with his final decision if he is going to continue the project at all :( Oh well....at least I guess this will allow the other programmers see how he improved compatibility (to whatever extent it actually was)....and perhaps help learn how to add keys for all the other games that still don't work.

..maybe something is wrong with this 0.3.4 (FULL) that I heard about.
Or maybe it's because it's a Rockman game....LOL (I am of course meaning because you like Rockman and that....ahh it's the same with my Yoshi Touch & Go went and bought it instead)
RockmanForte
July 4th, 2006, 02:38
Actually, no. The 0100 have the same problem. I am not going to test again with other games on this version. I will try 0.3.6 to see the difference.
EDIT: Yes, 0.3.6 seem to be better because you are able to press B and A and didnt crashed at all but when this character transformed..on the top of the screen become black. Maybe normatt should use source to 0.3.5 to resolve the b and a from crash. :)

Hmm I thought I did say 0100 & 483 would be the same??
Oh well...it's just been proven now :bouncy: so that's fine!! LOL
I had better add 0484 to my list now then anyway.
[EDIT]
Yay I am beating Rockmangames XD
Well not really but I have added a new game to the site list before Rockmangames has tested it LOL though I guess that means I'll have to go back and modify it when he does get round to it.....twice as much effort (groan) LOL

It's like....OH NOOOO I AM BEHIND AGAIN BY ONE GAME!!! (fret fret)
No I am pretty sure my days of being far behind are over, I won't let things fly for any more than a week.....But that will only happen when schooling starts again :( (3 weeks left....)
It's sort of weird though, because I spent so much time with my head in Nintendo DS Land that when I go to the shops now....I seriously can recognise every game on the shelf and sometimes have a basic idea of what it is like to play....which I guess was the original intention of emulation wasn't it....Cos it's not just the compatibility info that teaches you but also when you go out to gather info on the games and that.
Anyway keep it up Rockmangames :bouncy:
RockmanForte
July 4th, 2006, 20:39
LOL!
I will keep it up!
I am using 0.3.6 because it is little bit faster and no crashes with B or A buttons keys at all.

So it is not fully emulate yet.

Just make sure you identify which version you are talking about so I and everbody else knows k
RockmanForte
July 4th, 2006, 21:31
Indeed, I will. Dont worry about it. I will make sure which emulators to test and actually I am testing both (because 0.3.4 is so slow and I am impatient with it so I use 0.3.6 since both are the same things expect a little bit faster speed). HEH!

Cool :bouncy: Btw I fixed up my news page (on my site (http://llref.emutalk.net)) a little, though I am restricted to rich text and very basic html tagging....but i can't be bothered getting all fiddly with something such as my news, anyways it not only has a nice wonderful preloader (sudden gasp and relief on low bandwidth users LOL) but you I've also enabled the box covers to show up next to list updates and that.
Right...I had better get my 0.3.6 NDeSmuME list updated and uploaded...I sort of stopped caring for it

ZX plays just fine. You should know by now that, on a slow emulator, patience is the key. The anime video doesn't display properly with the emulator, but if you wait for a while, it keeps playing just fine.

July 5th, 2006, 04:23
Yes, that's right but it doesnt mean it plays just fine because it is still didnt display properly.

He stands near the snake to fight it, than the Model X biometal goes in front of him, the animation begins, he is shown holding it in front of him, like a power ranger, and the biometal emanates its power engulfing him, like a sailor moon, and then his entire body gets inside the light of model X´s power and the transformation is complete.
After that he shoots a charged shot at the snake and it frowns and escapes, that´s the end of the animation.

July 5th, 2006, 12:30
Apart from the speed and anime sequences not working, or save game support, yeah, it's fully playable.
In fact, in the old 3.4 with the Save State support, you seem to be able to actually save states without any problems if you do it on a menu screen or the save screen. But if you're using that build, it's of course a good idea to keep backups of saves and do multiples. XD;
Low Lines
July 5th, 2006, 14:29
"Fully Playable"
I honestly don't think that term should be used, mainly because it can be misenterpreted. If anything it should be "Playable", which after reading the info in that game and seeing the screenshots, I agree it is playable.
Hmm, are the animated bits internal video codec, as in the same thing as the Metroid Prime Hunters Demo (where you see samus morph in the intro)?? because if it is, somebody should try it on iDeaS 1.0.0.8c, because it supports it though I doubt the game will boot on it.....
(For my list)
New Game Test Fix:
DeSmuME 0.3.4
Rockman ZX (J) - Playable - graphic errors, missing animations
How's that?? Any objects, or possible suggestions to make that more accurate??
Low Lines
July 5th, 2006, 16:17
it is a shame iDeaS is still private because it has several advancements (ie Video codec & better 3D)...oh well
The graphic errors are found in centipede's head, thats all.

Righto, I'll change this games status now...
[EDIT]
YAY!! Roms from 486-490 have been released!!
I can't add them though until I get 0489's serial....just waiting on this site to update it's info...
[EDIT 2]
I've stuck up the NDeSmuME 0.3.6 Compat List, though it's currently identical to the 0.3.4 one and will be until there's another version release, because the only major difference in between the two emulators is speed. And the control issues with Normmatt's version is an emulator problem, it wouldn't have any affect on compatibility. So Rockmangames, it shouldn't matter which emu you use (0.3.4 or 0.3.6) cos unless you mess with that key thing in NDS's version the compatibility should remain the same.
[EDIT 3]
Added all the games above to my database, only they will show up as Missing/Unknown in the lists because I haven't updated the individual lists...since Rockmangames will most likely test them, I'll leave it until then to save the effort ;)
It's feels good to be ahead for once LOL

I'll do the demos later today, since they are the only ones left to be tested. I want to get these lists 100% tested before a new major version/build is released, that would require starting from scratch again ;)

Yep. It is no longer crashes.
Even thought 0.3.6 and 0.3.4 are the same things expect the menu in 0.3.6 and I think 0.3.4's speed is match to 0.3.6 as well. And frameskipping was being added as well but not perfect yet. It was small fixed by Normmatt.
