I think kazaa has spywear, but I'm not 100% sure as I've never bothered with it.

ok Kazaa, the "Old" morpheus and Grokster are all on the FastTrack P2P network, which is now owned by an Aussie company who want everyone who uses their tech to use spyware,
now Morpheus trumpeted the idea it would never have spyware, so it ditched the Fast Track network in favour of the Gnutella P2P network, to do so quickly it grabbed the source from Gnucleus (which is free btw with no ads) and put their ad system into it
the FastTrack network works better IMO but it requires you to log on to a server at start for the ads, thus some smart peeps are doing their own open version with no server and no ads,
Gnutella is nice on a small scale but it can have a hard time at a large scale, although bearshare and Limewire are working to get around those problems
for the future though I recomend the giFT network, orginally a hack of the FastTrack network, they gave up since the FastTrack people kept changing encryption algorithms thus, they decided to move to open source, currently though there isn't a windows port...
check it out here

WINMX works 4 me ;)

I think Direct Connect is the best...

haha, ok, WINMX worked for a bit, but started getting gay, Direct Connect can be used for multiple things much better than mp3s... we won't go there;) Morpheus is hella good for just mp3s and stuff, what about napster?? haha j/k, just felt like mentioning that internet sharing program:)

baw napster would even be dead if it was alive (is it btw?). fuck it.

lets face it, most of these programs probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for napster, and for finding music nothings yet come close to what you could find on there imo. besides they did their best to keep going, it was the law that screwed them and us over. anyone remember the old ftp searches, kermit, borg (now audiogalaxy), 2look4...etc? trying to d/l 5Mb(count'em, 5!) on my 9,000kb/s modem was hell : )

:pissed: that's because it is!!! AS I SAID ABOVE!!!!
It's reported on their site!! http://gnucleus.sourceforge.net/
it was even on Slashdot!
I''m not going to write informative replies from now, instead it's back to the good old fashioned SPAM!

it's kind of sad really . . .
i liked the way it was set up and gnucleus annoys me for various reasons. i would use kazaa if it was not considered spyware.
such a shame

For mp3, you shoul focuse on Audio Galaxy. It's very well designed. ;)
I used Morpeus for Software. But Gnutella is damn slow!!
Two more things:
1 - I've read that Morpheus was kicked out FastTrack because they "forgot" to pay their dues to FastTrack's owner (if I'm right, it's also the owner of Kazaa).
2 - Kazaa betrayed themselves... Their main argument against justice was that it was 100% peer to peer, thus it was impossible to stop the network. They give the proof that it actually is.

Kazaa was (and still could become) completely p2p but they added in the logging into a server so that the spyware crap can track you more effectively
