The Auction (http://maltzauctions.com/acclaimip.htm)
Aklaim produced crap game after crap game, and alot of licensed stuff, since the doors closed on that company you have the chance to buy the publishing rights to their back catalog of games, thats like over 200 games ;)
You could own:
Burnout
Ecco the Dolphin
Mary Kate & Ashley Sweet 16 the OT's as slaves....
Myst
Street Fighter The Movie
WWF Raw
Worms 3D
etc etc, might be fun to bid

Really No Clues why someone could spend that money in such big crap

Aklaim made fucking Super Smash TV. So I don't want to hear anything about them making crap games. That game alone more then makes up for those stupid MK&A Games

Why is everyone one saying "Aklaim" when it's "Acclaim"?

Because (yes I know the two << represent two C's, but it can also be written as a K)

Do the licences include the source code and resources???
If they did it would be worth some publisher grabbing a few and porting them to the DS & PSP...
Also, on games like the F1 series etc, what's the deal with regards to the FIA licences?

Some of these would present interesting situations - like, with one of the Spider-Man games, could you even publish a remake of the game with other companies like EA and Activision having the rights to the character(s)?

Now, now, my niece and a couple of my little cousins (girls ranging in age from 5 to 7) love those Mary-Kate and Ashley games. Simply because everyone (including me) think they are junk doesn't make it so. Maybe there simply isn't enough 5 to 7 year old girls who want that type of game or even play games. They just hit a bad market on those.
Now the 18 Wheeler game, well that one is a true stinker. ;)

Maybe we should all chip in $1 and bid for something under the name EmuTalk. :D

Not a bad idea, would that make us all technically Publishers? :D

Buy up a series (bust a move anyone? but it's already very high priced) and release it public domain? ;)

About the rights of other softhouses, well, I think the owner of title will need to try a deal with the right's owner. If not, they'll need to battle in the court to solve the problem =\
True, Aklaim had good games, such Extreme-G, Turok and that Ecco the Dolphin. I hope any good softhouse grab some of these great titles and make new games =)

I was thinking a little more seriously about this last night.
If we did happen to bid and win one of these games, I presume we then "own" the rights and therefore the royalties for that particular title/series?
I was listening to a podcast last night about the Xbox Live Arcade (http://www.xbox.com/en-us/livearcade/default.htm) on the 360. It was an interview with a guy who was one of the managers behind the Arcade, and he said that part of his job was to send/receive emails from publishers who fancy putting their retro titles onto the arcade, presumably for a price. As an example, games like Smash TV and Joust are on there at the moment to download.
And it got me thinking.
Are there any really retro titles on that Acclaim list that have the potential to work on the Xbox Live Arcade?
I think we should do some research - this could be a great oppertunity.

You should check what rights you're actually buying.

For sure.
But if all is well and good, is anyone actually interested in the Xbox Arcade idea?

Yeah, but not only the xbox live idea, you could do a lot more, with the rights of these titles, because if you're the official publsiher you also should get the sources of the old games...
Interested in a new port of bubble bobble/bust a move for the n64?
A mass bid would be a funny idea...

OK, well if we're all in, lets make some serious enquiries about this. The first problem that (some of us) have is the location.
The files associated with the above games may be inspected On Monday, December 19 & Tuesday, December 20, 2005 between the hours of 10:00 am & 5:00 pm at:
South Shore Records
3067 New Street
Oceanside, NY 11572
We need to contact them to see what it is exactly we're bidding on.
But I can't see any email addresses on there, only a telephone number.
Please call Bob @ 516-349-7022 to make an appointment.
So we're going to need someone in the US to do this.
Anyone?

Also, I just noticed that the page was updated to include this:
The minimum initial bid on a title is $5,000.00.
This might be a tad out of our price-range, depending on how many people we get interested.
