it is most likely your cards driver, what version is it?
for an optimal experience try the 50.?? series.

try updating your gfx card drivers, I had that card before and didnt have any problems. You can try using glide64 with a glide wrapper.

No, get other driver, what is the one you got now?
FYI as "driver" i mean the software that controls your hardware, in this case your graphics card.
read what we type or we will not be very helpful to you.
EDIT: since you will get fond of reading, here is some material regarding the forceware drivers used by nvidia because there is no way iŽll step by step you on driver updates...

Please download and install Detonator 28.32, (old, I know, but still available, even at nvidia.com, if you look at the previous version archive section) then please try again with Jabo's GFX plugin 1.5.2.
If some things still look ugly, then get Project64 1.4! Because Jabo's GFX plugin 1.4 rocked with a GeForce 2 MX! I doubt that it would look any better than with Jabo's GFX plugin 1.4!
Then, if you want to still use Project64 1.6, copy the GFX plugin from Project64 1.4's plugin folder to Project64 1.6's plugin folder! Can't see why that would fail.

@Rykusho
Hi, I man.. I used to have that GFx card you have and had the same problem when PJ64 1.6 came out, in the forums someone told me that it was cause the new jabo plugin uses a a especial feature not present in the geforce2 series (something about render-to-texture or vertex don't know what... just present on DX8 certified/compatible modern video cards), but I was able to found a workaround using ForceWare drivers version 44.03, it was not perfect but at least I could see the water on the fairies ponds ;)... don't use the "lastest" drivers, It will not work, uninstall the current one and install the old one found on nVidia web site archive. after that try using "the legacy pixel pipeline" option on advaneced options on jabo's new plugin.. that should do the work.
I would really recommend that you get another video card, something like a cheaper radeon 9000 or better, or a newer nvidia... you decide, it all depend how much you are decided to spend...
Well, hope it helps.

I have a GeForce4 MX 4000, and I have the exact same problem as the OP. I'll also try out all of your suggestions and get back to you...
