pirates most often kidnapp and ransom in that area of the world, though you could argue that is also theft(theft of a person), they are merely stating that it was not the motive in an attempt to calm down potential tourists who are worried about being kidnapped, of course, but, by all means ignore this comment and continue to talk out of your backside
