View Full Version : Dolphin Final 1.03 BETA Release

Knuckles
October 27th, 2005, 19:12
This is right, I've got the permission from FiRES to release the latest beta of Dolphin. This version is classified as an open beta, development on the emulator has already been stopped for a good while now and since there is no work in sight, this version is getting released.

I know a lot of people were waiting for it and there it is. It's still buggy, not compatible with a lot of games, slow and all but it's still better than the previous one.

What's new in this one:
-Improved Audio plugin
-improved Dolphin default input plugin
-Added Falcon4ever's nJoy 0.2 input plugin (recommended)
-Added Memory card support
-----slot 1 & 2, 2MB ones are inserted by default, can't be changed,
-----WARNING: if you format your memcard with an US game, you will be only able to use it with US games (same goes for EUR and JAP ones)
-Better recompiler compatibility and stability

that's all I can remember of the changes....

Enjoy!

the Dolphin team.... :P

Ok guys, remember this is a BETA! so that mean it could crash for unknown reasons!.

1. If you click on the game and choose for properties you will be taken to the dolphin-emu website (yea wrong mapping, it supposed to be a new feature) and it will show how the game is looking like in 1.03

2. You can obtain the latest and official ini from the following url:
http://dolphin-emu.com/games.ini
(you can find it on the http://www.dolphin-emu.com/gameslist.php page)

3. 1.03 has some language support, you will need to restart the emu. (yea yea yea, the dutch translations are on their way :P)

4. Please post your feedback in this thread and keep things nice mkay?

I was trying to be funny. Apparently I failed. Yes, I'm happy that 1.03 has been realeased...well kind of realeased anyway. Now think of all the idiots that are gonna come and say "d00d ive been waiting for this for liek 9 months and its still slow and crashy as heck i demand u fix this". In later versions, are we going to need the Gamecube Bios?

I had the same problem, then I checked the plugins and now it works (basically I pressed the "ok" button in the plugin window).. Maybe it tries to use the 1.02 configuration or something? I don't know.

Figures. Both my 6800GT and my Radeon 200M have that shitty shader problem, so the games look terrible. Is it possible to get a slightly earlier version of the GFX plugin without this issue?

Thank you for this nice version, and keep up the good work.

2 thing tho, looks like shaders are bugged, it make the emu crash when i try to launch it with shaders enable (1.1/1.4 or 2.0 crash), i can only run games with no shaders. (i used to play very well with shaders in v.1.02).

How come i can't use memory card? options are greyed out and doing F2/F4 do nothing at all, how to format memory cards?

How come i can't use memory card? options are greyed out and doing F2/F4 do nothing at all, how to format memory cards?

as I said, memcards are inserted by default and can't be removed. you need to launch a game that will ask you to format them (SSBM or BAM3k for example)

When I launch SSBM, it doesn't ask me to format my memory card.

Knuckles
October 28th, 2005, 18:41
then the cards are prolly already formatted..... go in your /data/ folder and make sure there is :
memcard_a.raw
memcard_b.raw
both 2048Kb
if not, make sure
memcard.raw
is in the main dolphin folder.

if they are all there ,remove both memcard_a.raw and memcard_b.raw , and launch back SSBM.

result should be:

I want to know, whats all the excitement about? I mean really. Its a four year old game system that you can buy used on ebay for ~30-50 bucks. You can get games on ebay for less than 5 dollars. Don't get me wrong, I support game emulation... I think its cool to play your console games on your pc. However, there is nothing to get excited about right now... you guys get an emulator from the dolphin team that barely plays games at all, has been in development for years, and you act as if they put on a man on the moon. Come on. It's a dead emulator, too. You guys can plainly see that there isn't a real gamecube emulator yet. So why even discuss gamecube emulation? I'm not trying to be rude, but aren't there better things to do then to camp around and wait for some sluggish developers to take 10+ for a new release?

Man it didnt take the romans 2 weeks to build rome huh?? Anyways good luck to the dolphin team great progress through the years just a shame to see ya stop.

You don't understand anything about emulation at all, the levels of difficulty involved in even getting a single commercial game to even show a menu, or the motives of an emulator dev team. People are celebrating the technical achievement, and it is an achievement. This emulator is not even meant for warez, never was and never will be, if you thought that then you are really kidding yourself.

I come from the time when transparency effects on a snes emulator were a big deal, i come from a time when the VESA version mattered a lot.

The bug only shows up when your machine doesn't have a writable D: drive. Someone forgot to turn off some debug code in VideoPlugin.dll that tries to write to d:\stream.dmp and D:\dlistlogs.txt. Everything works fine when those paths are changed to valid paths so the fopen works and it doesn't try to fprintf to NULL.

CKEMU is right. Nobody know what's the progress is going on yet and it was best not to asked. You shouldn't question developer why it is slow in process. It is free so let them do whatever they pleased and they will release the next version when they decide it is ready. Do not questions them because it is not a good idea and do not annoying them. Please just enjoy 1.03 version for now until the next release that's all. ;) :P

Can you imagine, just for a moment, building a swimming pool in your back garden. You get to a certain point in the project, and even though it's not finished yet, you tell everyone in your neighbourhood that they're free to come and use it. You still have so many things you want to do to it, but you've got to work and have your own time for other things. So you do what you can, and your neighbours help you out from time to time, letting you know about things that need fixing etc.

Then it gets to the point where you're happy with your swimming pool the way it is for the moment, even though there's still lots of stuff you COULD do, you're happy and that's the main thing because it's YOUR pool. But your neighbours still want to help, in fact some of them use the pool so much they start getting tetchy as to WHY you aren't making the improvements that THEY want.

How does that make you feel? I'd be pretty hacked off I reckon. It'd make it harder for me to come back and finish the pool. I'd probably tell my neighbours to go and use someone else's pool or get their own. I might even work on the pool secretly, and not tell anyone what I was doing for fear of generating the same kinds of problems again.

Anyway, I digress. We were talking about emulators....

man, away for 2 months an what a nice surprise when i get back :)

all i can say is well done an looks sweet

an to all those who whinge about it, its simple if u don't like it, look else were

i take me hat off to them, i know i couldn't make it, an also I'm not interested in have a free rid with ngc games i have my ngc right here by me TV, i just like the idea of seeing games off of my ngc on my pc regardless of if they work at 5fps or 200, dunno about anyone else, but when i see a ngc only game running on my pc it fills me with a joy that's hard to explain, that is what id consider the main attraction to it and i suppose that's the real reason behind such projects, its that sense of achievement that they get

well, thanks to all the Dev's for this, it made me feel good for the day

all i can say is

i await the next to see what else u have accomplished, and if there isn't another, then thank Q for what u have done so far and good luck with what ever u chose to do in life, but least u can say u made one person happy for the day even tho u have never met me in person :D

and for that i show u my gratitude with these to smileys getting drunk

Will you make a Linux version of Dolpin ?

They said earlier in the FAQs that they will not make a Linux version for the moment, so the only way to run Dolphin in Linux is to use a Windows Emulator.
An example of a Windows emulator is WINE, since it is compatible with DirectX games.

Wine Is No Emulator, it just grabs API calls and translates them ...
And as the FAQ ofcourse stated no Linux version is being made atm. Making a linux version would mean that most stuff needed to be ported (most of the plugins are using DirectX)

Oh afaik WINE just shows up dolphin but won't let you run any games.

Dolphin was made for fun. None of us find dealing with linux distro incompatibilities, makefiles, and stuff like that to be fun.
We like DirectX and Visual Studio :)

I just finished ready the entire 10 pages and some of the comments relates to the problem with the Memory Card. I tried running Zelda - Four Swords on the emulator but can't get past the memory card problem.

THe game keep saying that the memory card is corrupt and if I want to format it. I answer yes and it can't format the card. I tried to delete the two memcard files in the data directory but still have the same problem.

Any idea why the emulator/game is doing that?

Thanks in advance

It's really good to see that this is under development still.
One issue I'll point out (if no one else has) is Starfox Assault no longer runs. It crashes on boot. I tried the alternative Video plugin, and it booted once, crashed, now won't boot at all. With or without pixel shaders on.
Still, thanks for all the hard work!

Just a heads up: using an EMS Trio Linker with the latest nJoy plugin (included with 1.03) crashes the emulator on game boot. Tested on two computers. Other joypads/convertors work fine.

Don't know why, the Trio Linker works with every other game and emulator like any standard game controller should.

Knuckles didn't write this emulator. Also, it is well known (and documented) that only 1 controller works. Just be patient (based on what I've read, wait about a year, or 3), and I'm sure that they'll get more controllers supported eventually. In fact, if we're really lucky, they might even enable multiplayer online (sort of like Kalaira, or however you spell that thing for other emulators that provides online access [it sends controller data to the other emus, or something]).

Though I haven't tried this emulator (or any GC emus, for that matter), I think I may give it a try. I like emus because, especially with these new 3D ones (depending on the improvements they've recieved), you can get high-res in-game screenshots. That's what I want them for. I plan on running Skies of Arcadia (though it will almost certainly not have sound. The music is sequenced (like midis) and those aren't supported yet, that I've heard. Streamed media (like MP3 or WAV) is what you're hearing, when a game has sound in these emus) to see if I can get any pictures from it. I might also run PSO 1&2, and maybe even PSO ep. III.

Anyway, the comments are mostly all good. Hopefully, I can get this doing what I want it to... Mouser X over and out.

Too bad no work is going to be done on this. Fire emblem actually was working for a bit on 1.02, but it crashes with this new release. The game wasn't playable - cutscenes were white and black, I got about 4-5 fps, and the 3d was messed up, but I could totally see that it was possible to emulate this stuff! So cool! I mean, it just needs tweaks and fine tuning and stuff. The base stuff looks like it is there. I attacked boyd a few times even though I couldn't see anything but the weapons swinging (the rest was black except for the health bars). Still cool!

Well I can tell you that the way the public acts is a determining factor if I go to f1res and say hey this beta rocks lets release it. Thats what I did for the last one and I dont think I am for the current release cuase alot of people are being stupid. If not for knux and I the last beta would have never gotten released. After seeing so much complaning about speed and people general retarded comments. I will def not vote to release the new beta until he goes final. So you might say one persons comment doesnt count for working on the emulator, and ur right they will work on it but if its released is really based on how you guys are acting and if f1res feels its ready to be released. If f1res comes to me and goes, "think we should release this beta" that he has many times Id currently say no.

There is one reason people are asking for a full speed GC emulator: most people outside US (especially in Latin America) can't afford to buy a Gamecube game, and mind you the price of a GC game in Argentina is 70 dollars compared to 30 dollars in US, people will obviously ask for an emulator. So, why don't we complain to Nintendo? I mean, Fires is obvioulsly too lazy to improve speed, the Dolwin coder is in the army, and Whinecube has zero progress. There is no way to release a working GC emulator soon.

Your post is very useless, i am Brazilian and here GC games are even more expensive, if you can´t afford the games, get a modded Console.
If you need to play GC games, well, go code an emulator yourself, it is really stupid to demand smth from ppl who are not getting paid to do it.
I do not have a GC and a full working emulator will be a blessing but do you see good ol`X demanding fullspeed, no, Why? Because they have something better to do and no obligation to us whatsoever.
Don´t be a jackass Alex, be helpful, go help some ppl around the forum and quit being such a lame ass.

Very Offtopic: Well thank you very much. I'm also from Argentina and you just portrayed us as game pirates, oportunists and lazy smurfs that just because our economy sucks are expecting for some coder to solve our problems. No ofense dude, I agree with you, life sucks. But I don't really see the point on calling a dev "too lazy to improve speed".

The autors have life too, they cant be there coding all the day for the emulator.

Fires once said that improving speed is much easier than improving compatibility. However, I don't blame Fires for it's laziness (I'm also lasy, duh), in fact the problem is that Latin America is nothing in the videogame world, thus prices are horrible. Why do ya think there is 90% piracy in Latin America, sir? Despite being pirates, the blame should be to Nintendo who doesn't care to make a game factory in Argentina as Intel does. I have to wait one year to go to US, get cheap games, and come back here. When I finish all Gamecube games, I have to download GBA games that are pure crap nowadays, and wait for Dolphin or Ideas. Who's to blame? Nestor Kirchner and the Big N. And stop calling me a jackass, you have no respect for third-world countries! Invading Irak, because of "weapons of mass destruction", and doing nothing to look for Osama, while treating Latinos like Muslims all over the world. No wonder Islamic guys call US the "evil empire". I don't care if Fires stops developing Dolphin, soon we won't have to worry about Gamecube prices. The point is, you're treating me like garbage.
And yes you should complain to Nintendo better than emulator coders, if the Big N build a factory in Brazil or in Argentina games will get cheaper and we could afford them instead of looking out for Warez.
You're right sir, the Big N should cooperate with our economy, as they did in China. Maybe we could all sign a petition, so that the Big N could stop piracy in a helpful way. But I won't stop fighting for an emulator until I can buy a GC game for 30 dollars here in Argentina! So, Fires, do what you want, I don't care if you're lazy, I don't care if ya don't want to continue with Dolphin. But I'm saying the truth, and we should do something instead of fighting for slow emulators! I'll do whatever it is necessary to get prices as low as in US!

The next person who talks offtopic (I'm talking about the piracy/latin america/alex subject)
gets a 14 days ban here on emutalk.
Go PM each other about it, just don't turn this topic into a mess. End of discussion.
