I have three words to add to Macca's post.
OI! OI! OI!
It's good to see what the winter olypmics are all about. Caring more about others losing than yourself winning ;) Oh, and letting the Aussies slide past.:D

He won did not he, and of course he realises that he was not supposed nor capable of winning by his own capacity. But still, he was the first one to cross the finish line and the rest is history... And the african who participated in the men's freestyle swimming, I beleive the distance he was competing in was 50 meters, during the last summer olympics, the one who had never swam further then 25 meters, still holds and deserves the prize for best atlethic performance.

Well that's a little different. Id he'd won the race it would've been the same, but he didn't. The best man won. In this case (the skating), the best man didn't win.

On the contrary, the best skater won. He was the only one capable of finishing the race without falling, eventhough they others were, still are, better skaters they did not manage to cross the finishline without falling or being struck by other falling skaters. Depending on how you look at this situation there are two possible arguments.
(1.) He won because he was the best skater, at the right place at the right time, eventhough his atlethic performance is not adequate to recieve a gold medal.
(2.) They others did not win, eventhough they were better, because they fell before they could cross the finishline, and the worst skater who did not keep up with the high pace was the first who crossed the finishline.

if you've actually watched the footage you'll see the last guy in the pack lost his footing and took out everyone else, hardly fair is it?
although we should be glad no one got a nasty slice those blades on their skates are lethal.

In a perfect world, no, but it is clearly not a perfect world. He won, he may not deserve the gold but in the end it all comes down to whom is first across the finish line. And yes, I watched the entire race, not to mention the quarter- and semifinals. After this incident I have ceased to consider myself lucky, they should since no one got seriously hurt, it may take a while for their pride to revover though. And the definition of fair in an olympics or any sport for that mather is not clear, is it fair when people cheat?
With the high altitude taken into consideration some of the results they achive can not be perfermod without the use of illegal drugs. The results Johann Mühlegg has achived, compared to other good atlethes, are very close to the line between possible and inpossible. The German's kicked him out from their team because he was not good enough, he embarged on the Spanish team and suddenly he is top notch. It should also be mentioned that he has never achieved results this good before. Eventhough there is no evidence that proves that he is guilty, common sence and my male intuition is telling me that something is not right, he has gone from being mediocre to being the worlds greatest. Is that fair?

Dude, let it go, he won by 100% luck. It's not like he was the best skater because he held back, knowing the others would all fall. He benefitted by others misfortune..

It seems very unlikely that he was holding back, but taken the fact that he placed #3 in the winter olympics, and recieved a bronze medal for his achievement, a couple of years back he should have the routine needed for such a big event. But you are right, he escalated through the quarter- and semifinal with luck and won the gold medal through others misfortune.

Yes, of course he did win by luck. He admits it 100%. But you haver to remember that life is not always fair. Yes he won because the others lost maybe not due to their own fault but they all fell. You may say he is not the best in the world, i'm sure he would agree to that, but he won, so he wins.
Anyway another Aussie just won (and i mean deserved to win) the Women Aerial this morning.
2 GOLD MEDALS!!!
