wont show up

i just downloaded my first rom and project 64 wont recognize it. when i go to open rom the file doesnt show up

What is the file extension? You likely have to uncompress the rom. WinRAR will do this.

if the file doesn't appear in the dialogue, it simply means its not a supported extension. no checking is done by pj64 until the file is loaded. the extension also is not important other than as an indicator. try changing the extension to .rom and verifying the rom with GoodN64
