View Full Version : What music makes you SHIVER ?
Redah
February 15th, 2002, 09:16
Well.
Since 'The Town' seems to be awfully quiet unless one of Redah's threads is active/open, I decided to start some more questioning.
This time: What music makes you shiver?
What music gives you goosebumps?
What song have you played over and over and over and over and (you get the point)?
What is the song for you?

stairway to heaven, because its a beautiful song and the first note on the electric guitar solo makes the hairs on my neck stand on end, that and the line 'dear lady can you hear the wind blow?'
oh and parisienne walkways by gary moore, if you dont know it its well worth a listen.
and not really a song but anyway, the album darkside of the moon by pink floyd, great tracks like breathe, time, brain damage. the album doesnt have breaks between the tracks and it all fits together very nicely.

Rap music irritates me, with Two Live Crew and a couple of old school groups being the exception, rock music makes me shiver and Paint it black by The Rolling Stones gives me goosebumps. Classical mucis, pop, techno(goa) are ok, as long as I can decide where and when I want to listen to them. ;)

The thing that really scares me... is that all the people here seem to listen to 'alternative' stuff...
So, all this time, me, a cool guy, is chatting with persons I'd avoid in real life... just cuz they have -completely- different tastes then I do?
Scary thought.
And, yes, I'm one of those 'mainstream' guys you 'alternatives' point and shake head at :)
Yes, I listen to whatever is playing in the Top40 and don't think it's crap. Yes I listen to dance/pop.
No, I've never heard of approx. 80% of all the artists listed above, or heard any songs by them.
Just thought I'd say that

If I'm one of those 'alternative guys' you're speaking about, then you've got me seriously wrong. Manufactured stuff may be annoying, but its nowhere near as bad as elitists who bring up unknown bands and pretend to be superior to everyone else because their band hasn't 'sold out' yet. Them and radiohead fans ;)

February 17th, 2002, 02:04
HOLY SHIT don't get me started on those n'sync bands and britney spear voices, ok first of all i think everyone agrees with me, all those band MECHANICAL VOICES allright, they use those people why? how many music videos do they have and what are they showing off? UH nO SHIT, they use 'em for their bodies and looks, its just another way of getting hella money from people, the hole music part and voice part is just quickly manufactured to the point you don't notice that they might have a bad voice, when britney spears and them do, and holy SHIT have you guys heard blink182? They sound like a middle school band in the middle of puberty and can't decide which octave to sing in, GOD i hate imitation! the band enigma is a mechanical band, but thats the whole point of them, they want to be known like that, if you've guys heard of them or there music you'd know what i mean. Schuberts 8th is freak'n awesome TRI-FORCE, i TOTALLY agree with you, and anyone ever heard final fantasy 8's remastered orchestra pieces? those are the bomb, and if you guys want to know someone, just for example that has a REAL voice is Harry Connick Jr., he's one of the ones thats still alive and has a bomb voice.
Tri-Force
February 17th, 2002, 04:33
of the harry Conic Jr. "type" i would go with Elton John and Billy Joel. they rock.
Schuberts 8th is freak'n awesome TRI-FORCE, i TOTALLY agree with you finally someone else who knows good music even though you bashed n'sync. yah they were made a band for their looks but when i hear a song on the radio and dont know it's them when i hear it and i like it that must mean something. and please dont call them a band. they are a GROUP. bands play instruments and that is an insult to me who is in a band (called Tri-Force) but anyway enough ranting.

As a musician, i have to jump in here for a sec....
first:
triforce, u r either 12 or on ludes, or both. all together. schubert is the only soulless classical music i can think of.
/i like music were REAL musicians show off REAL fuck'n talent.
/fuck Britney Spears and her 3 doller bill music talent, and fuck the back street boys (they could nobb off my pecker before id notice any talent coming from them.) its all a scam.
this i would agree with, but... isn't this the same guy that was talkin' about snoopy dogg? That guy is part of such a huge and terrible corporate machine, and so over produced, that even if he had any talent (maybe he does), you wouldn't be able to tell. And i'm not some "i only listen to jazz" elitist, either, the original NWA had promising aspects, and let's face it, the beastie boys are genius, and i do mean genius, put em in a boat with mozart, vivaldi, brubeck, and whoever else will fit in there, ok, so they're not always serious, and that want broad appeal, but seriously they treat music like music, and have talent, anyone who listen's to the rest of the "corporate gangster testosterone rap" is an idiot, and probably doesn't get laid enough.
rock that doesn't suck: system of a down, they play real instruments, metalica is a horrible cliche, and his vocals make me wanna nominate hooty for a grammy, and that guy is ALWAYS half a step flat. RHCP i have a real soft spot for, i listen to them, but i'll be honest, they blow chunks too (except flea) kiedis is the worst lead singer i've ever seen live. i mean, everybody likes mcdonald's sometimes, though, it doesn't make it "ok" though.
The doors are probably the best band ever, since they never had a shitty period like the beatles did (everything pre rubber soul makes me wanna kill someone), and their albums are phenomenal right until jim was killing himself with whiskey during "the soft parade", which still has some merit.
all the late beatles is awesome, hendrix is a great guitarist, bob dylan SUCKS, that's the 60's in a nutshell.
The 80's was probably the worst decade in the history of music, at least that i can single out, outside of the violent femmes, the sex pistols (who weren't good musicians, but from a nouvo (sp?) art stance, not bad, and some random U2 and early (punk based) b-52's. it's all an abysmal electronic crap fest. oh yeah, and kraftwork invented techno, they are cool, at leat very creative (excluding the forementioned NWA and beasties of course).
the 90's brought a champion of mediocrity, cobain, who was killed by his absolutely trite and horrific wife HOLE, who is everything that name signifies. He had alot of creative knowledge, and was almost interesting until all the crappy perl jam clones came out, including stp and half of everything, but there were some real groove based up spots in the 90's including:
system, they are just a c+ though,
rage against the machine, one of the best modern bands, if one dimensional.
primus, now there's a band of actual musicians, go listen (if his voccals are almost as bad as kirk homelet's (intentional typo)).
and maybe a few i'm forgetting, there was some good stuff in the 90's.
so far the oughts have been really disappointing for me. i can listen to coldplay when i go to sleep, and radiohead is interesting live, if absolutely ludicrous on cd, 311 and system are still doing what they do well, and it's pretty good i guess, but kinda ho hum, but let's face it, the 80's retro corporate silicon britney n'sync $hit is the current paradigm, and i for one would hang myself, if i didn't think my being here saying all this was the last glimmer of hope in the future of art for our species.
if you want REAL unfettered brilliant music and performance go download everything by the chiefains, some early latin jazz, and pink floyd bootlegs.
oh yeah, and i've PLAYED beethoven's 7th (second chair viola), and the 2cnd movement is awesome, i liked how they used it in the mini series wild palms too, if any of u can get a hold of that on video.....
and now the thing that makes this whole post horse $hi+...
obligatory spam for my own band!!

and who says monkeys cant talk. first of all crhylove it's a shame you only made second chair. i played Schuberts8 as a FIRST chair trumpet with a wind arrangement and i still say that is the best clasical piece out there. yah bach bethovan blah blah blah. you probally only know them because they are so popular. listen to schuberts8th again both movements and you will hear the soul in it. now for the mordern stuff.
#1 selling debuet album ever. say it with me. Cracked Rear View. whos that by again. . . oh yah oh yah HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH. dont knock the band they have some awsome lyrics and Great unreleased songs.
the boy "band" issue. first of all they are NOT bands. second yah most of their songs are pure garbage and recycled manufactured Bovine Fecesies. (BS) but as a person who doesn't just hate to hate :cough: crhylove :cough: i can admit they there is talent within Nsync. if they would just do their own thing like Boys 2 Men who im sure had everyone wanting a Philly steak, they would break out of the stero type and be really great.
best bands right now
3eb. live they need improvment but listen to their words and music. GENIUS I SAY GENIUS
Oasis. need an attitude check but listen to their words and music. GENIUS I SAY GENIUS
Linkin Park. break out

triforce, i'm not a big bach/beethoven fan, didn't mean to imply that. actually i like the real innovators like vivaldi (can you say 1300's, WAY b4 mozart, etc.) and bartok. but i digress...
and trumpet positions aren't fought over as often, given the dirth of string players, and actually i've been first chair violin in some pretty big orchestras, so u know that i am no slouch, first chair violin always has the biggest/hardest part/solo. and the second chair viola was in an orchestra directed by a guy who used to do the LA phil sometimes, and was a proff at both UCLA and USC, so it's a bigger title than it sounds like.
Oasis is fucking garbage, that sentence alone makes me wonder why i'm even bothering to respond.
Hootie sells the most albums, ok, mcdonald's sells the most burgers, are big macs better than my mom's homecook? not even in the same league, and let's not even start the in and out comparisons.
i've never heard of 3eb, but i can guess, (and sincerely hope that you're not actually) talking about 3rd eye blind. I wish THEY would step over the ledge, my friend because they AND linkin park are both boy bands, with instruments. actually linkin park is unabashed about it's beginnings as a boy band, and any band that needs a dj to sound good (aka, linkin, limp, etc..) isn't really a band now is it? in fact the only band worse than any of these in this para i can think of would be blink 182. i went to high school with the lead singer, he got picked on, they suck.
foo fighters WERE good, back when they were called "nirvana" but even then they were a pretty half ass band, now they are right next to trite and terrible.
dmb i don't know who that is.
and your shamelessness is unparalelled as u don't include a link for which you actually get paid one one hundredth of a cent per download from. which i'm doing again, just to prove that i m an evil bastard.
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/194/communizt_vagina.html
