I'm trying to install XP Pro. After I stick in the disc and reboot the installer gives be the press any key to boot from cd message, I press enter then it sits at a black screen.

Anyone heard of an XP install freezing before it tries to detect your hardware?

I tried my 2k Pro CD aswell, it worked fine.

Malcolm: you don't happen to use reiserfs on any partitions do you? anyways, iirc, a slipstreamed sp2 disc doesn't have that problem, but I'm not entirely sure about that

Actually its an SP1 disc, and yes I do have a reiserfs partition on the drive. I didn't know it screwed the XP hardware detection.

I'll delete the partition and see if that works, thanks bud :)
