Ouch, your playing with 256mb of RAM? How is it? I have 512mb and I disabled a crap load of Windows XP services which really helped out Dooms performance.

Also anyone who is using an ATI Card I recommend the new beta Catalyst 4.9 drivers with enhanced Doom 3 performance. I'm guessing they worked over the Open GL drivers a bit.

I run it in 640x480. It actually doesn't consume much ram, but it does need a good video card.

I am running on an Athlon 64-bit 3200+ with 128mb of ram, which alone are fine for the game, but my video card is a measily geforce 4 ti. The reason I know the ram is fine is because there is very little disk activity.

Ah , i've made a fake doom 3 Screen with a LAN-party corpse :D

The lower pic is the original pic with that LAN-Addict :D I found his stare so frightening that i couldn't resist putting it into a dark Doom 3 screen :D

Whats up with you ? That screen looks good ! Or do you mean the framerate ?

The frame rate was crappy (almost unplayable), but I turned the res up to try to show a decent shot for the thread. I normally play at 10x7 since it's much less jerky.

I play mine at 1024x768 with High settings. Framerate is pretty great actually. Radeon 9600 here :)

I brightened these shots up, they were FAR too dark... they lose a bit of quality due to jpg too.

For all quality freaks out there : There's a mini-mod which activates self-shadowing in doom 3 , just look on this screen :O

Here's the Download link !

Do you really need anymore shadows? heheh. Looks nice but it must make a decent size performance hit.

By the way, where can you play Super Turbo Turkey Puncher? I only saw broken machines in the game.

The extra shadowing looks good sometimes but most of the time it's glitchy and really not worth it because when it glitches it just looks plain retarded.

Here's some shots I took. 1024x768, High Detail, 8xAF. Totally playable.

You can NEVER have enough shadows ;)

You play that game before you go down to meet that dude (where the hell begins...)

I felt like taking more shots, so i did, this time i used 2x AA, suprisingly, my system still manages a decent framerate...This game feels more and more like Doom as it goes along, can't believe there are people disappointed with this game, it rules.

I gotta a 9800 Pro, I'll give the self shadows a try but even with a 9800 pro conserving performance in this game is wise. I only have an XP 2000+ which I'm upgrading this week so should be better.

I'm not suprised some people hate the game. It's impossible for everyone to like a game. It's funny because some people are let down so easily. If you ask everyone if they liked Doom 1 I'm sure over 90% would say yes. Probably very similar results to half-life. If you asked everyone if they liked Doom when it came out I'm sure there would have been mixed results and even more so with Half-life. Doom was big but it was so long ago (and the web wasn't around) that likely no one can remember anyone badmouthing it. The fact that the game was more of a suprise also helped a lot. Half-life got a lot more hype than Doom 1 so likely it was bashed a little more. Maybe it would be appropriate to tell people who "hate" a game such as Doom 3, or Half-Life 2 when it comes out, that they are stupid for getting caught up in the hype and not realizing that it wasn't going to be to their liking. It makes me wonder if these people had extremely high hopes or if they knew they weren't going to like it but tried to play it anyway.

Hehe , i didn't really searched for such things... But on the most German forums they didn't flame the game at all , very strange O.o

BTW , this is my 666'th post , Demonic , posted in a doom thread , this fits together :D

He just should set the difficulty to Nightmare , then he will see how hard the game can get...

What? An ordinary 9600, or do you mean a 9600 pro or XT? Because I'm running the game on a 9600, and at 800x600 with Medium quality settings the game chugs like a bitch when there's a lot of stuff going on.

Runs beautifully on my Ti4400 128MB @ 1024x768 High settings. Not a hitch in sight. Have you tried the 4.9 Beta Catalysts DuDe? They are said to offer a significant FPS boost in Doom III.

Nice totally black screenshot vampire ;)

Only time its a bit flakey (framerate wise) for me so far is the first bit of the game, where all the robots and people are hanging around, if i turn AA off there its fine, stalls for a sec now and then, but other than that, smooth framerate, once i get past that area things become good :)

1024x768 on high detail (without AA) is quite smoooth
same but with 2x AA is quite smooth but not in the first little bit.

Unlike far cry, if i shoot, it stalls for 2 seconds.

In regards to AlphaWolf's post, you can get the BFG from the MartianBuddy cabinet shortly after that area in case you can't find the PDA to unlock that office (I initally had trouble finding that one). The cabinet is in a storage area (storage area has a combination, find the PDA) and for the MartianBuddy cabinet, http://www.martianbuddy.com/ :)

You had trouble finding that one? You actually find it very early in the game. Remember the part in the game where you see that guy stuck in a chamber, and he asks you to unlock the doors for him so he can get out? You can either unlock the doors, or activate the machine which vaporizes him and leaves a skeleton with some stripped flesh behind smoking on the ground. If you do the latter, you can't get the PDA. If you do the former, then you can find that guy in his office, where you'll find Michael Abrams' PDA, and it has the pass code to his office. There are actually two different messages that you have to get the pass code from though, but both are on that same PDA.

August 12th, 2004, 13:12
So the only way to get the BFG is by opening the doors? I accidentally zapped the dude thinking that was the way to open up the door. :P I never thought it would cause such a long term consiquence though.

No, cooliscool, you can get it from a MartianBuddy cabinet later in the game as well, or from a *won't spoil the game for you, you'll see* :D.

CAUTION: THIS POST CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT MAY COUNT AS SPOILER TO SOME PEOPLE

I just found the ID thingie before I beat the game. Did it in about 5 days of on and off playing, hardest difficulty. This tells me it wasn't quite as long as half life.

All in all a very good game, but the storyline went a bit on the bland side towards the end; just before you enter hell, up until you get the soulcube. The storyline picked up a bit after that, but the whole ancient civilization thing could have been done in a much more dramatic/better way. The main thing I was thinking before the hell part was was "now why am I after the soulcube again?" (when the voices were mentioning the "item I seek," but I don't quite remember actively seeking it for any particular purpose relating to the story, at least up until after I actually got it) But the ending itself was good :D

Just for some people that thing that their PC won't run the game because it's under the minimum system requierment , well, I tested Doom 3 on a PC under the required specs (in some points) and it runs fine most of the time!
Specs:
Mobo : Aopen AX63Pro - Via Appolo133Pro+ Chipset
CPU : Intel Pentium III 666Mhz (133x5.0)
RAM : 2X 64MB SDRAM PC133 (non-ECC)
Video Card : MSI GF4MX440SE-T 64MB DDR AGP 4X - Latest Forceware XP drivers
Audio Card : Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital (SB0220)
HD: Seagate 4.3GB HD (Doom3 takes only 1.5GB)
OS : Windows XP Pro (no SP1)

Doom 3 settings:
-Low details
-640x480
-everything at off in the advanced video options

Game takes a while to load (still average, take some mins, ingame, when game is fully loaded, the FPS goes from 8 to 20 at some places, it might drop a bit in big rooms with many special effects but it's mostly playable and the PC doesn't overheat :P

If you still don't want to buy the game because you are still not sure, don't buy it, it might work great for me but not for others......
