Are you using the Windows XP integrated burning program?

Could be anything, your CD writer, your burning software, your actual blank discs, your system set up. you need to be a bit more specific.

Bug, disable the recording support for the writer (from the writer properties), reboot and re-enable it after that.

From the desktop: Open "My computer" right click on your writer, select properties, then recording and de-select "enable recording on this device", reboot and then re-enable it.
