I used to play A-Train, Sim Ant and Sim City (which I believe was DOS). I also enjoyed Sam & Max Hit The Road and King's Quest VI. Later I got into Transport Tycoon. Heh, classics...

Then again I'm younger than you, and I was brought up in the MegaDrive era, so...

I've played Jill of the Jungle, shareware version though, but I liked it quite a lot. I've also remembered playing Quarantine and Mad dod McGree I & II (I miss those games, they were great). Billy the Kid and of course, doom and duke nukem were really fun. There were also a number of other demos of games made for DOS that I've played back in the nineties when I was still in elementary to junior high school years.

I've had several night owl discs, it was a shareware pressed CD targeted for BBSes. I ran my own BBS when I was 14/15 (10 years ago now). So I had probably played all the games on that CD at least once. :) I find it amazing that only 10 years ago I had no idea what a computer was and now I am about to graduate with a degree in Comp Sci and an emphasis on CE. Nice thread btw deesee.

I really didn't have access to a pc at that time in my life, but when I got one I started playing games such as Duke Nukem 3d and Doom.

The farthest back I remember is when I was about 12-13 years old, when I first started playing PC games. I think one of the first games I played was Civilization. Definatly a classic. I was also into some driving games, and a bunch of games that came with QBasic... and... a game called Scorched Earth. Also had the PC version of Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles. The consoles definatly had the upper hand with that game, haha. But I had been playing consoles since about 88', so I had been playing games longer than the PC.

X-com: UFO Defense (awesome sci-fi tac sim game, very original)

I imagine you're referring to the same game as me, UFO: Enemy Unknown (unless they really are two different games). Yeah, it was amazing at the time, and the gameplay is still class. They did an underwater one later on etc etc.

the main differnece between UFO Defense and Enemy Unknown is that UFO Defense is on land/air and Enemy Unknown is under water

There was this one under them called Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold or something. That rocked.

And for the record, Enemy Unknown is air/land too, I've just found out that they're the same game but it was retitled for some reason in America.

a game called Scorched Earth.

Scorched Earth (http://www.classicgaming.com/scorch/) was and still is "The Mother of All Games". Maybe you should check Scorched 3d (http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/) as its quite nice.

My first gaming experience was probably on c64's Skate or die. classic.
And on consoles (nes, of course) the legendary marios, duck hunt, turtles.
And on PC - Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards (http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/p,2/gameId,413/gameShotId,21883/) - what a teenaged boy couldn't miss at that time.

In the US it was called UFO Defense, whereas in europe it was called Enemy Unknown and they used slightly different sound effects. Same game nonetheless.

As Alpha said, UFO Defense and Enemy Unknown are the same game.

The first sequel, the underwater one, was X-Com: Terror from the Deep. Which is basically the same game all over again, just with new terrains, weapons, some new aliens.

Do any of you remember this one shareware overhead adventure game that featured a character named Thor (I believe it was VERY loosely based on myth) who threw a hammer and solved a small puzzle on each screen. I believe it was called God of Thunder. I also remember "War Wizards" and some other more interesting RPGs like Wizardry (popular) and Aethra (or something like it)? I believe I played some helecopter game that reminded me of 1943 or AlphaMission. haha... also reminds me that I was ban from a BBS once because I downloaded too many files. It's humours to think about it now because those people barely received calls to their BBS and I only had 20 minutes/day to download anyway. The memories... the hideous RIP graphics... O_o

Edit: They really don't make games like they use to... I miss those games where you don't have to spend hours and hours playing to complete.
