Constant controller pak errors

In The New Tetris,m whnever I switch in I have a message saying "corrupt controller pak", even when I'm using a blank one, one that the game produces itself, or even none at all!. with PJ64 I didn't get this error, but I'm trying out other emus now. Does anyone else have this porblem if so, how did you fix it?

I had this problem with The New Tetris (memory pak error that prevented me from playing the game) but I fixed it by using Jabo's Input and turning player 2 off, I think.
