Pretty but is it like Evercrack? I don't really dig the rpgs, any style.

Well its having serious server problems, the turnout was huge and they didnt realize they had so much publicity. Its kinda like Everquest but Lineage 2 is more centered on the PvP (Player vs Player) than it is the PvE(Player vs Enviroment) like Everquest is. In Lineage 2 they purposely want players to fight amongst themselves. They have about 5 castles in the game thus far and clans can get together and siege for control over them. Clans which control a castle get special privilidges such as setting taxes, controlling town guards and my favorite, the clan leader gets to raise a Wyvern (dragon) to ride. There is still the PvE for leveling up of course.

Well they added 2 new servers, it should make it a lot better.

Hmm, I dig the graphics, but is the gameplay any good? I've yet to play any MMORPG, but from what I heard EQ is "find enemy, click on enemy, wait until enemy dies".

Does it allow me to lone wolf it?

I like MMORPGs but I like to be able to wander off out into the wilderness, leveling up killing various beasts as I go and then coming across people who need help, doing so and then moving on, basically I like to play as though I'm a wandering samurai ;)

Absolutely, while the game is centered around clans and taking castles, the PvE system works as well and there is nothing to keep you from becoming a wanderer or a mercenary or the next Kenshin Himoura. There are advantages to being in a clan, for example, only clan members who own a house or castle can raise a baby dragon to the strider (mountable) stage, and only a clan leader can raise a Wyvern (flying stage). There are other advantages and disadvantages. And you can always temporarily join a clan for some of them. By the way, I'm on server 2 and my character name is Lynx for anyone who joins. I am the clan leader of Reborn. If you wish to play with me, I have yet to make it beyond the boudaries of the elven forest so you might want to play an elf. Here is me in my newly aquired fully decked out bone armor.

downloading now, so I should be on in the afternoon,

not sure which character class I'll choose, I've been looking at the screenies and I liked the look of an Orc mage and of course a human fighter, I'm not too sure about the elves they look a bit fairy like, I have no such qualms about the dark elves though ;)

edit:

still waiting for that email for the beta sign up :S

sorry to get your hopes up blizz but I read on the forums that aparently the beta emails arent coming. They havent said why but its probably due to the severe problems with the servers. Hopefully they will open them back up real soon. I managed to get to Gludio, and I was ok there, so I can probably meet up with you no matter which character class you choose. Although dwarves start way over in elmor which is a looooong journy by foot. Dark elves are right next door to the elves. Humans are just south, Orcs I think start in elmore as well but I'm not sure. Hopefully they will get the email thing resolved quickly. They did add 2 new servers and have said 3 more are on the way.

Allright, the official announcement from the forum admin.

DhevrinNC:
Serial keys: The release of serial keys has been slowed down somewhat from our end , for those of you wondering. It shouldn't take a week though.

In the meantime you may want to read the legend behind lineage 2 on the webpage. Its quite well written. Also when you do get in, I can probably meet you despite whatever character class you choose now.

Honestly I dont know whats going on. I didnt realize they were going to with hold any more beta keys or I wouldnt have bothered posting it here. They say they are sending them but people on the official forums are saying their friends cant get in cause the keys arent coming. So I really dont know what to say now.

oh did you get a key? Yeah you have to keep trying repeatedly but usually get on after 1 or 2 tries. if you get to the server screen and click confirm and nothing happens, then just cancel it and try again because it wont do any good to keep clicking confirm. If it doesnt let you in normally it will kick you to the login screen again (stupid, yes I know) but if it hangs on the server select then your definately not going to get in until you re-login. I know its a pain to get into it but once you get in the game is awesome.

I'm in,

it's fucking sweet, I'm on the sixth server.

Keyboard commands are easy because you set them yourself. The shortcut bar on your right (unless you moved it) can have items and skills dragged to it. Use F1 through F10 to select a shortcut and Alt-F1 to Alt-F10 to select a shortcut bar. The rest is all mouse movement. YOu can hit Alt-H and use WSAD but it doest work well. Unfortunately you cant move servers and I'm on Sieghardt and since my character is already level 20 I aint movin. Chat commands are pretty easy. To shout in your general area, use ! followed by your message, its orange. The others you can switch to tabs and see the symbols used for Trade, Clan, and Party and to whisper you use " symbol followed by a name for example

"Lynx Hi!

would whisper me on Sieghardt.

Your basic commands are under the little eyeball menu button. Your skills will appear there too after you learn them. You can drag all of these as well as weapons and armor to the shortcut bar however you like. In my case F4 in Lineage 1 was pick up items and I couldnt break the habit so I just put pick up items on F4.

There are option / commands that you can use but the buttons seem easier except for maybe /sit and /stand.

Forgot to mention to rotate the camera, click and hold the right mouse button and drag. You can also quick click it to center behind you and I think clicking the middle mouse button will do something. Rolling the wheel will zoom, not sure how to do it without the wheel. For the most part this game is mouse oriented.

yeah I got a hang of using the camera early one, once you get used to the menu commands it's pretty sweet.

I haven't worked out if I'm going to switch to a mage or not yet, they look nice and impressive compared to a swords just slugging away ;)

the other thing I noticed is that it doesn't like alt-tab :(

a windowed mode would be nice.

Edit:

I'm playing as Xenocrates on Sieghardt, I'm level 4 at the moment.

More updated comments:

The disconnecting from the server is a pain in the arse, so I may go back to server 6 to play as Lorica or Kael if this keeps up.

also some dick with a high level was running around "the kill foxes area" where new characters level up (I was still lvl4 but come on man that's just dumb), I think PSO had the right idea where there were set areas for killing each other...

Eagle
April 11th, 2004, 23:06
Yeah the disconnecting is annoying but it happens on all servers, just more often on Sieghardt. I intend to buy the game though and by that time they will have sieghardt fixed I'm sure. Windowed mode is coming in chronicle 1. As for the PK's they become less of a problem as you get higher levels. They are all generally weak because people kill them so often. You just have to get above them. The PvP system works though, there arent many people on that do PK because of the harsh penalties for doing it. And those that do, end up dieing too often to level up so they arent strong. When a player has a red name is puts a target on his back, anyone can kill him without penalty. If a white player attacks you he turns purple and can be killed without penalty but if you attack back you turn purple and he can kill you without penalty. You have to be carefull because some people called "pokers" will only attack you to see if they can get you to attack back. Once you do, your fair game.

April 12th, 2004, 00:37
hehe, I've seen the poking quite a bit, in my last trawl through, quite funny too though

I've noticed it still has the train problem that you get in FFXI, it's hilarious to see someone being chased by two spiders or in one case five orcs and two werewolves, with people chasing behind them telling them to stop ;)

wandered around with a few mages leveling up as a party picking up more mages as we went, there were five of mages before a fighter joined at which point tearing the place up became easy but healing the damm fighter became a pain, as he expected us to heal him every time he ran off and attacked something far too powerful for him alone

I like the game, it's quite addictive, I may try going across on the boat next time round, I'm lacking a lot of spells to be really useful right now which is a pain

Eagle
April 12th, 2004, 02:10
Ive heard the boat is a pain in the ass. You really shouldnt cross till lvl 18-20. If the server crashes or you get d/c during a boat ride there is one of two things that could happen. Best case scenario, you get sent back to the island and have to pay the fee again. Worst case scenario, you fall into the ocean, drown, lose exp and items, and still get sent back to the island to pay the fee again. Being an elf, the only time I went there I just walked across the ocean floor because I cant drown, or at least not yet. Elves are supposed to have extended breathing underwater but right now its bugged and its just infinite breathing underwater.

I played for about half an hour before I uninstalled it, MMORPGs suck ass. It was a bunch of idiots running around, most were sitting in the square trying to sell things, a lot more were trying to get things free, and some jerk off who was apparently born as gods gift to gaming was having a love affair with his caplocks key and kept screaming "WULd U N00BIES SHUT UP!!!!1" So, based on that, I will never play an MMORPG again, and am glad that I didn't pay for one to get that experience.

blizz
April 12th, 2004, 17:40
depends where you are, I think when the game is paid for a lot of the crap will go, put they're really got to sort out the server disconnects before they start charging people

(god damm it's annoying when you're in a good hunting party)
