I have setup the free softmac emulator at www.emulators.com I downloaded stuffit. I cannot install the os. I have a rom image

It can read a startdisk gotten from the Basillisk 2 beginner emulation guide (http://www.emaculation.com/articles/intro.html). (I gave up on Basillisk 2 because I couldn't get it to read the bios) My problem is I cannot get the os installed.

Does anyone happen to have/make a compressed 30Mb compressed image of OS 7.5 or know what I can do?

I've downloaded macintosh OS disks in the Bin format (compressed) Any ideas. I can get it to say either welcome to macintosh or welcome to macintosh extensions disabled

I'm afraid SoftMac is a very poor emulator. If you ask anyone in the Macintosh emulation community they will both tell you that is the case, and its creator, one Darek Michoka, is a complete jerk to anyone who asks him for help. You should use Fusion PC (also distributed by Darek, but he is not its creator), or try Basilisk II again. It just so happens that when I found perhaps the best tutorial for this emulator, I mirrored it to my little site.

I tried B2. It saves the config file on exit or running, I didn't know that 'save as' saves a different config file in General if you want so my settings were not getting saved.

I also found out you have to use the disk tool once inside the emulator for 'img' files after you decompress them with stuffit found on the boot disk. This is to install OS 7.5 from 7 floppies on the Hard Drive. You might want to include direct links.
