For casual downloading of songs, kazaa (not my type), for people who want more and don't just want to leech, Direct Connect, for new releases Bit Torrent. Bit Torrent is a great distribution app but for songs, small files, and old things it doesn't get on so well.

Direct Connect is good after a release has been out a week or so. I love direct connect personally, and I just recently started using bit torrent, and of course, kazaa for random music, then theres the old fall back of emule, which needs some kinks worked out, but is good for smaller files and hard to find stuff.

I still just use emule, as there isn't a thing that I haven't been able to find on it.

I don't use bittorrent because it tends to trash my network latency as you can't throttle the upload speed.

Yes you can, indeed I do that as a matter of course (though I ensure to remain sharing for a long time after DL has finished). Try looking for a few alternate clients such as Shadows Experimental.

Or PTC personal torrent collector (My favorite one, I haven't had a single problem using it so far)

Well, I find the idea amusing that the makers of Kazaa Lite would even consider charging for the program, since Lite is an illegal version of the original Kazaa.

They are charging people to use this service now because in the USA, they are fining people for using KaZaA and other P2P sites, I get away with it in Canada (for now, its rumoured to start here soon).

I used to use Kazaa for all of my downloading but then I discovered bittorrent and that's pretty much all I use now.

The problem with bittorrent is that it really relies on websites or forums to work, you can't find the files for yourself like with Kazaa.

Both have their place.
