The Americans are taking these "politically correct" terms serious, true. At the left the "politically correct" terms and at the right the normal words:

alternatively schooled - uneducated
chronologically gifted - old
cosmetically different - ugly
differently interesting - boring
larger-than-average citizen - fat
least best - worst
motivationally different - lazy
uniquely coordinated - clumsy

alternatively schooled - uneducated -not necessarily. I know lots of people who were "home schooled" who test higher on state sponsored standardized tests, as well as on IQ exams.
chronologically gifted - old -yep.
cosmetically different - ugly -no, this just means they aren't the "Ideal shape", which is bullcrap anyway.
differently interesting - boring -yeah
larger-than-average citizen - fat
least best - worst - now THAT's funny
motivationally different - lazy - no, this can mean that they aren't greedy like everyone is supposed to be....
uniquely coordinated - clumsy - I know a guy who is uniquely coordinated. He can juggle 6 sharp knives.

California isn't the entire US. At least where I am from, you always say it like it is. (in fact, some europeans we know on IRC like to call me insensitive)

Man, I work in the woods

Most people I spend my time with can't even pronounce "Politically Correct"

Same around here. Most people don't sugar coat it, you're just called a freakin' idiot and you have to deal with it :p

larger-than-average citizen - fat

You see alot of variations of that one though. One I saw at Six Flags a couple of weeks back was for people of "large girth".

An amusing one is to call them "horizontally challenged" as well. :)

Yes, sadly many (mostly liberal) Americans do take terms like these seriously, but to say "The Americans are taking these seriously" is a disgustingly large over-generalization.

"Fat" is most commonly referred to as "over-weight" in politically correct circles (although "people of large girth" is better IMO :D ).

One of the worst I've seen is calling poor spelling "creative spelling". I can just imagine a teacher saying, "Sure Johnny, you can spell cat, d-o-g if you want. Just because everyone else spells it c-a-t doesn't mean you're wrong, just creative!" :puke:

It is over-simplifying it to say that "most americans" use those terms. I would have to say that a lot of americans in big cities use those terms, since fat, dumb, gay, lazy, black, and other non-politically correct people are most often seen in the cities. Most of the people I know that live in the country call a spade a spade, and a fat man a fat man. Of course, they also call a black man a (racially explicit eptitaph) and a gay man a (sexually explicit epitaph). So if you happen to be gay, black, or stupid, some political correctness seems like a good thing.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against everyone who happens to be gay, black, dumb, lazy or fat.

I do have some issues with specific dumb or lazy people, but that's different.

I have one question for ya'll. Why is calling a negro a black guy a bad thing? I mean, if I said, "That black guy over there..." I don't mean it as an insult, it's a distinguishing feature. Would you be offended if you were called, "The white guy" ?

I do understand that most people abuse these words and use them to degrade black people, and that really sucks. Then again, life usually sucks...
