Why don't you just boot from a win95 cd?

AlphaWolf, older notebooks don't have CD-ROM's, plus Win95 CD's aren't bootable.
But I did come up with two ways to get the install files on that notebook.
First, you can copy the Win95 directory off the CD on to a lot of floppy's (Note: you will need an old copy of MS-Backup (to fit large files on a floppy disk)) on both the PC with a CD-ROM and the notebook).
And the only network support you may get in DOS is interlnk and intersvr (also found on the Win95 CD), but I don't think it will work with Ethernet based networks (or I'm wrong)
Intersvr - is a DOS based server program
Interlnk - is a DOS based client for Intersvr (loads on boot up in the config.sys file)
Note: Interlnk and Intersvr works like DCC for windows
For more info on how to setup intersvr and interlnk (and the files) goto this site
http://www.indiacam.net/pinout/interlinkdatatransfer.htm
Edit: if you need any help, just reply
Note: I have a lot of 486 and 586 (AKA: Pentium) PC's, so I could help you out.

Mine was bootable, and it was just the stupid upgrade version. And there were lots of external CD drives for laptops back then.
Even if you can't boot the CD, just boot a floppy and run the setup.exe on the cd from dos, it works fine even on the upgrade.

OK, I also have the upgrade, I'll see if it boots in my P4.
But CD-ROMs in DOS require DOS drivers, and my version of Windows 95 never had DOS CD-ROM drivers.
Note: my old 75 MHz Pentium already had DOS drivers for everything on it.

Only OEM copies of Windows releases will boot from the CD.
The first retail Windows to boot from CD was Windows 2000, AFAIR.
And why the devil do you have an Upgrade CD?

DOS.
nephalim is right, DOS 7.0 is the best for EMU's on older notebook's, I use following EMU's on my 75 MHz notebook:
NESticle - for NES
NO$GMB - for GB, SGB and GBC, GBC part is shareware, it only work for about 5 min, unless you find a Licence.key file on the net.
ZSNES - you know it's for SNES, but it will run very bad on a 486.

AFAIK, XWindows is a GUI for Linux, unless if you want too run Linux?

Hmm...now that I think about it, w95 upgrade might not be bootable, but I am absolutely certain that w98 was, because I just installed it on somebodys system.
btw, xwindows is the protocol used for the communication between graphical windows and the user in a unix environment (works better than microsofts message based system in that it doesn't have a huge security vulnerability known as the "shatter" exploit, and it is network aware), the actual program that draws the graphics is xfree86.

No, my Win95 upgrade CD isn't bootable at all, but my OEM Win98SE CD is bootable, also I just made a bootable DOS 6.2 CD.
And your right, xfree86 is for the GUI not XWindows, sorry about that.

MS-DOS 7.0 is what Windows95 is based on, it can be found on a Win95 boot disk.
And did you get my PM?
