Hey, I've been trying to update the BIOS for my mobo, without any luck. I need this update to run Windows XP on my comp. I've got the right update but tried to run the update with no sucess. I have followed the readme as much as I can. My mobo is a QDI Kinetiz 7B www.qdigrp.com

Here is what the readme says:

K7V8363 K7B/E AWARD BIOS V3.8LCP release note.

This disk contains three files:K7B_V38.BIN,README.TXT and AWDFLASH.EXE

1.The checksum of K7B_V38.BIN is 03F8(Hex) ;

2. How to use AWDFLASH.EXE utility:
This is a flash memory write/read utility.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The AWDFLASH utility could not correctly run in windows (virtual 8086)
MS-DOS mode. It must be proceeded with the following steps:
1.Create a bootable system floppy diskette by typing "FORMAT A:/S"
from the dos prompt under DOS6.XX or WINDOWS9X environment.
2.Boot system with diskette.
3.Then run the AWDFLASH utility.
Usage:
AWDFLASH [BIOSfile1] [BIOSfile2] [/<sw>[/<sw>...]]
BIOSfile1: New BIOS Name For FLASH Programming
BIOSfile2: BIOS File For Backing-up the Original BIOS

<command> function definition:
cc: clear CMOS; cp: clear PnP;
cd: clear DMI.
/sn: No Original BIOS Backup. If this option is chosen:
Be sure your new BIOS is compatible with your MB. If not, the system
are damaged.
/sy: Backup Original BIOS to Disk File.
Examples:
AWDFLASH ****.BIN /py/sn/cd/cp

Warning:
Avoid power-off incidently in upgrading procedure, or system would fail
to reboot!

That's good engrish. :)

Anyway, do this:

1. Make a bootable floppy
2. copy AWDFLASH and the BIOS bin to the floppy
3. boot with the floppy, and when you reach the A: prompt type:

AWDFLASH k7b_v38.bin /py /e

if you wish to create a back-up of your original BIOS at the same time, instead type:

AWDFLASH k7b_v38.bin oldbios.bin /py /sy /e

If something goes wrong and your computer is totally knackered, don't blame me. :)
