Now, because I love importing, I had this little question:
If I were to import a dvd-writer into a pal country (such as mine).
Now, I'm wondering, because we all know that dvd are region specific, but it is the dvd-writer that writes the "ntsc region" to a DVD or is it actually the dvds that contain the region they can be played on?
Cheers.

I'm not entirely sure on this... I'm pretty sure the region is on the DVD itself.
However, if it isn't, all DVD-ROM drives at least offer limited region modification (sooooo gay, mine will let me change regions 5 times and then it's locked).

Using DVD Region Free, I should be able to watch from any reigion on dvd region locked drives.
Besides, dvd ram isn't the best media to use....

Nearly all DVD players can be unlocked
Tag is half right here. Both the player and the DVD are region encoded. Unlock the player and you can play any region. If you want some help unlocking post here and I'll get Steve to lend a hand for you

I'd like to unlock my DVD-ROM. I thought that was impossible...guess things have changed.
It's a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2502 (Notebook)
I use many DVD player software...i'll figure that part out later.

DVD Region-Free is a safe and easy to use program which enables you to watch all region DVDs on your region-locked (RPC-2) DVD drive without flashing firmware.
It isn't too shabby. You don't have to worry about damaging your drive at least. It's trial, however, but costs only about $20.
This info is good to know, though...it can come in handy.

Wow, thanks!
Only problem is...how do I know what firmware it is?...
EDIT: Still waiting for an answer *points up*. Would appreciate it. Thanks.
EDIT 2: OK, I am "figuring out" what firmware I have by updating it. But the site won't let me download the patch! It says it's offsite linked - which it's not.

Hmmm...will any program let me access NTSC burned dvd's on pal dvd-rom readers...? And will burned home made dvd be limited by region such as movies are? If that case, I wonder if dvd region free would work to disable this...region protection?
Oh and would it work to burn a dvd bought here with a dvd burner bought from elsewhere? :p
