Well obviously the hud in the first picture is not 100% opaque. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to see through it, would I? Just take another look. Opacity is the opposite of transparency AFAIK.

Perhaps the measure of opacity is opposite of that for transparency.

If the first picture were 100% opaque, it would be 100% solid, and thus 0% transparent. It is obviously partially transparent, and thus somewhat less than 100% opaque.
