Audio Recording and Editing

A friend of mine asked me to help him find some easy to use software for recording and editing. He is part of a garage band who is working on getting some songs recorded for a CD. I have Sound Forge downloaded, but it isn't exactly the easiest to use. Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Maybe Cakewalk, but which one?)

Where have you been? :)

Like skull1 said, use Cool Edit 2.0. Its great because not only it can record/edit. It has real nice effects & ways to improve audio. It takes alittle practice to use, but I know you will get the hang of it.:satisfied
