Mischief Makers Control Trouble

When i try this game Mischief Makers (2d shooter from Treasure) I can't seem to get the cursor to move or control the character. The A and B buttons work so i can get thru the menu but the analog stick doesnt move anything (menu or player). I tried using the digital pad buttons in case it was only reading from that but still nothing. I also tried Jabo's input plugin as well as N-rage's, both in pj64 and 1964, still nothing. Does everyone have this problem and if so this there any workaround?

I think the d-pad is required for this game...at least for the menues.

The D-pad is used exclusively. If it doesn't work, either the plugin is configured incorrectly or your pad is broken.
