Majora's Mask video issues

I've tried and I've tried, and I'm completely unable to get Majora's Mask working absolutely perfectly without video problems. Everything is up to date -- latest drivers, etc.

System specs: 1.5GHz Athlon XP 1800+, 1GB RAM, nVidia GeForce2 integrated GPU (older hardware, but should suffice for N64 emulation -- Half-Life 2 runs decently on this machine).

Latest drivers, latest Project64.

I've got two versions of Jabo's Direct3D plugin. Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2 results in some lacking effects (notably the motion blur of the mask at rom start) and a huge FPS drop at nightfall and when using the Lens of Truth where there's actually something hidden. Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 produces a problem with many game textures appearing black, and other unholy visual glitches.

I have tried two other plugins that apparently I must not name here, which are popular; one largely works, but the message text during cutscenes (such as when you get the Song of Healing) doesn't appear (z-buffer problem?) and the other has about a zillion options none of which seem to produce anything non-glitchy.

So -- does anyone here know how best to get MM working with good video and framerates? I can live without the motion blur at the start; if it weren't for the horrible framerates and other problems in places I'd just stick with Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2. Any advanced options, alternative video plugin suggestions, etc.?

I'm not sure what you are talking about -- I'm not really a hardware geek. However, your post seems a bit rude, and doesn't contain any suggested course of action. Please provide a suggestion of some kind.

I do know that I meet the minimum system requirements, particularly with respect to the video card.

The fact that you meet the minimum requirements means that you can play some games with only some minor errors or not errors at all. However, some games use various effects that cannot be emulated by low-end hardware (GeForce MX series) or there's a major speed hit when they are emulated. As a result you're having these problems.

The only way to reduce missing effects and the GFX errors is to get a better video card. A GeForce FX (or newer) or an ATi Radeon 9500 (or newer) are recommended as they meet the requirements of most video plugins.

Have you got any suggestions that won't cost me $200+ (and probably closer to $600+, since I'm not sure the video card can be upgraded without replacing the motherboard)

yes, ebay a nintendo 64!
EDIT: sorry for being grumpy, however emulators are not here for our sole amusement, this guys have no obligation to have it running on machine A, B or C and if your machine is under the specs, well, boo-hoo.

For the record, a DX9 part will not run the game perfectly anyway (but will decrease glitches due to low-end video card). Buying a Voodoo 4/5 and using Glide64 would probably work better for Majora's Mask.

twisted0n3,
i have a GF3 here which cost £70 years ago and would now be about £20. and a Radeon9550 in another PC which cost £35 6 months ago. both are fine for pj. but i'd get a PixelShaderv2+ card (like the Radeon) if buying new. speed is hardly an issue, so nor is price. and getting AGP also not a problem.

Clements,
i have almost no bugs listed for ZeldaMM in jabo's, care to enlighten me please? recommending another graphics plugin and glide wrapper sounds.. unlikely.

I had the day transistion effect (border) in mind. It's most likely the last remaining bug, and Glide64 has it working properly when using a Voodoo (although no wrapper supports the effect yet).
