"Looks like Microsoft has silently shipped DirectX 8.2 (build 4.08.02.0134) with its brand-new Combat Flight Simulator 3!
However, this can be considered a minor release as only the DirectPlay-API has been updated.
Users, who already have DirectX 8.1b installed (that also includes users of Windows XP SP1), only need to apply a rather small DirectPlay 8.2 update, in order to upgrade DirectX to version 8.2!
Please note: As several people already pointed out in the comments, this release is neither time-bombed nor is it a beta!"

welp, combat simulator 3 doesn't have directx 8.2 on it
observe, if you were able to nab directx 9 beta1 drivers you'd probably be more happy

Yes, your mistaken, it has Direct Play 8.2, not Direct X 8.2 These websites are mistaken as well. A lot of people assume Direct X, and Direct Play are the same thing. They arent.
