Some worthwhile arcade emulation - Rave Racer

To stay within the rules here (I hope) I'll keep this short and vague

I've never been a big fan of arcade emulation and always preferred the console games. But this is worth the trouble....

on 8-18-02 a dump of Namco's Rave Racer, world version 1995, hit the web and an emulation newsgroup for "misc" files (hinthint). This is Namco's sequel to the Ridge Racer arcade series. It is a Namco System 22 game and so plays under Viva Nonno. There is a brand new version of Viva just released and updated to support this game.

It takes some fiddling around to get it working but it is a blast when you get it right. You might find some more info on other boards, etc. If you like RR64 then you should definitely try this out.

    Here are a few screenshots:

MAME also supports this now. Well, almost. There's some info concerning it on the WIP page.

actually rave racer was arcade only and as never been reproduced for the psx/ps2 or any other for that matter ..the psx game with similar title was rage racer ..rave racer was an excellent arcade game and if you have the right specs for the emulator then try it it's a blast..
i love all things namco ...along with sega they have produced the finest arcade/home entertainment available..looking forward to the super system 22 games (time crisis anyone..and not the inferior psx version) ...
viva nonno rocks as does all quality emulators

can your systems run this game with no texture reduction?
    hehe... mine can.
the game eats up a wopping 400MB of ram with DXT1 compressed textures, and around 1GB+ of ram is required for 24-bit textures.

rave racer is supposed to run at a silky smooth 60fps.
this is system 22 were talking about, not some crappy PSX hardware.

30 fps seems like the right speed for this game. I guess that the fps counter shows the actual number of frames per second, rather than the d/l`s.
