EmuTalk.net's installed vBulletin hacks (complete list)

Here I'll list all the official hacks I have installed on our vBulletin message board software. I would like to ask you to post comments, questions, suggestions etc. about the hacks in this exact thread - much easier for me to keep track of what's been asked and suggested. Of course I have done my own little "hacks" and modifications myself, but I won't list those (honest reason: I can't remember all ). Thanks

I hope you will find this useful, and get to know the "hidden" features of your favorite message board. I have included descriptions from the hack authors to explain further.

    1.
    View All Attachments in Thread
    Hack Author:
    TWTCommish
Description: Ya' know that little paperclip icon you see next to thread links containing attachments? Well, this hack makes that icon clickable. Clicking on it will give you the normal thread view and page navigation and all that, except you'll only see the posts with attachments in them. I find this particularly useful if you have a few threads where, say, members post their pictures. It's nice to cut through a lot of the comments and get straight to the files.
    Demo: http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.ph...ew=attachments

    2.
    Colored Online Users Hack
    Hack Author:
    Afterburner
Description: Colored usernames in the "Currently Active Users" box of the following user groups: Administrator (red), Super Moderator (dark red), Moderator (green).

    3.
    vBGlossary
    Hack Author:
    TWTCommish
Description: Simple: creates a glossary of terms. They're sorted alphabetically much in the same way the Memberlist is. I find this is extremely useful for most forums, which surely have a lot of their own lingo. For my site, it's a few acronyms and goofy phrases. My members get a kick out of referring newbies to the glossary to learn about the phrases. It's really helped the whole place seem less like a clique...because others can catch up easily with a reference like this.
    Demo: http://www.emutalk.net/glossary.php

    4.
    /me vB Code
    Hack Author:
    FireFly
Description: It's very simple, it just mimics IRC's /me action. So if you type this:
    /me runs fast
(note: it must be on its own line!)
    It will become:
    /me runs fast
It parses this code in showthread.php and private.php, only.

    5.
    "Away" message for users
    Hack Author:
    bira
Description: This is something that is common in IRC - /me is away. In BBs, a user is either online or offline (or invisible). But, on my Bulletin Board, the folks created such a community that every time someone goes on a holiday or goes offline for a while, he/she posts a new thread to annouce they're 'away. So, I wrote a hack allowing a user to change his/her status to "away", including a return date and an away reason which will show up in their profile. Likewise, the online/offline icon in postbit and buddy list will change to an away icon (a very faded version of the 'offline' one).
    Demo: http://www.emutalk.net/usercp.php

    6.
    Shrink Old Posts in Thread
    Hack Author:
    bira
Description:*Posts you have already read in a thread, will show up with their header only (a row that includes the username, post subject and date only). New posts only will appear in full.
    * This is user selectable via the 'Edit Options' page: each user can decide if he wants this option on or not. (By default all existing and new users will have this turned Off).
    * A link at the top of the thread offers to "expand all" posts or "contact all" posts.
    * By clicking on the + sign on a shrunk post, it will expand without the page reloading. By clicking on the - sign on an expanded post, it will shrink without the page reloading.
*This option is available for your IE users only! Netscape users will see no difference and will not be affected anyway at all by the change

    7.
    Moderator Icon on postbit
    Hack Author:
    PPN
Description: This is a hack to show a small icon next to usernames (note by Martin: next to gender on our postbit) on a post, when you mouse over you will also get told what rank they are, Admin, Super Mod or Moderator etc.

    8.
    vBQuiz 1.0
    Hack Author:
    TWTCommish
Description: It allows you to setup a quiz center on your boards quickly and easily. This quiz center is FULLY templated, integrated with vBulletin, and has an advanced Admin script for managing the quizzes, categories, and questions.
    Demo: http://www.emutalk.net/quiz.php

    9.
    Quick Reply Box
    Hack Author:
    FireFly
Description: This hack will add a quick replying box at the bottom of all threads, only if the user has permission to reply, so when you need to reply to something real quickly you don't need to click the Post Reply button and wait for the page to load.

    10.
    Yesterday/Today Datestamp Hack
    Hack Author:
    bigmattyh
Description: This hack replaces the standard "05-25-02, 02:45 PM" date with "Today" or "Yesterday" anywhere you have a date posted, if the date matches today's or yesterday's date.

    11.
    Currently Online Users in #Emulation64
    Hack Author:
    Braveheart
Description: Whenever a person joins, parts, quits, changes nick, get banned, get kicked, a bot writes a text file located on the server, which the board calls from the forumhome template.

    12.
    Mod Drop Down Hack ((FINAL))
    Hack Author:
    kaost
Description: This mod will add a drop down scroll in your moderator column. Originally designed by 411blaze for UBB6x and I'm not sure if he released it for vbulletin, but here it is. I will offer limited support, but its to simple to configure wrong.

    13.
Register link for guests, User CP link (or button) for members.
    Hack Author:
    KuraFire
Description: Rest assured, after this one I don't have anything to release for a while (only stuff that has no purpose outside my own board).
Well, this hack. What it does is 'merge' the Register and User CP buttons. If a viewer is a guest or just not logged in, the link will display a Register button (or text link, whatever you want). If the viewer IS logged in, and therefore a member, it will display the User CP button instead.

Extra feature that you can use with this hack: add Guest-only banners or something alike. In other words, only guests will see the banner (which could say something like "Want to get rid of this annoying banner? Then sign up now!") and users who are logged in won't see anything. (Note by Martin: we're using this add-on as well)

    14.
    Welcome Panel [Final]
    Hack Author:
    trilOByte
Description: The welcome panel you see when you enter the index page of EmuTalk (that contains your avatar, posts since last visit etc.). It's a combination of 2 previously relesed hacks (both credited fully). One by Firefly (avatar hack) and one by MrLister (since your last visit).

    15.
    Gender Hack for vB 2.2.0
    Hack Author:
    apfeifer
: Description: Comment by Martin: This is much like the Gender option I made myself, but this is an actual hack that is well-written unlike mine. You are asked to select your gender when you register, or you can change it from the User CP later on. The have also been modifications to the memberlist, and it's quite nice. I set the emu gender as undisclosed since the regular question mark was so boring.

    16.
[vB v2.2.6] vbMicroStats: page load time, queries, GZIP and PHP version
    Hack Author:
    Nakkid
Description: This hack will add at the bottom of each vBulletin(powered) page the following stats (note by Martin: some stats are only visible to admins):
    - load time of specified page in microseconds (with custom no. of digits to show)
    - number of queries executed

    17.

    Hack Author:
    FireFly
Description: This is exactly what you see here, on this board's main page. It allows you to easily change the style you are using.

    19.
    [vB v2.2.6] vBMood
    Hack Author:
    Velocd
Description: This hack will give your users the option to choose a mood every time they post a new reply, new thread, or edit their post. These moods are in the form of images, and can be whatever images you want. It's fully integrated into the ACP (admin control panel), and should be easy to install and use.

    20.
    vBQuiz 1.0 Add-on
    Hack Author:
    Martin
Description: Let's describe this add-on as having two functions:

1: This part of the add-on displays the easiest and hardest quizzes from your board main page below currently active users.

2: As you know if you have vBQuiz 1.0 installed, only Admins are able to add, edit and remove quizzes. This add-on enables the ability for Moderators to manage quizzes as well.

No, it's not because of any installed hacks at all. One of the sites we're hosting has had a ton of traffic in the last few days and that's why it's been slow.

j00 blame my 1337 hack?!?! Heh... naw, tis just because our server has 100+ sites on it, and can no longer handle heavy winds...

We'll hopefully be moving a few of our MySQL databases offsite soon (thanks Redah!), which should reduce the server load somewhat. At the moment though, we're just having to constantly monitor the server and restart the web services whenever something goes wrong.

    hack suggestions

    - When you click on a smiley or the bold / italic / underline button the text is insterted at the end of the textbox, but not at the cursorposition. It is better to insert it at the cursor. Also, when you select a peace of text and you click the bold / italic / underline button, the selected text should be bold / italic / underline, when no text is selected and you click on the bold button, it should open the [ B ] and when you click it agian, close it [ / B ].

    - Perhaps you also can add a "code" button to insert some programmingcode?

    - Posibility to add a attachment when you edit the post. (Not from eggdrop-forum)

I saw that all this is done at the eggdrop forums.(http://forum.egghelp.org/posting.php?mode=newtopic&f=1)
