Program to visually show controller analog stick input?

I have bought a USB-based third-party Nintendo 64 controller and I feel it may only have eight directions digitally on the analog stick, with no force stepping (which allows a character to walk instead of run, for example).

Is there a way I can test this?

Turns out TAS Input Plugin 0.6 shows a controller dialog during gameplay (I tested the plugin with Mupen64 RR).

When I push the analog stick a little in any direction, it shows that it goes all the way in that direction. 0 or 1, basically.

Can someone else test this for me with their controller, please?

Well, some controllers are just bad, so if you play a game like super mario 64 and you tilt the analog stick a little bit, it will result in mario starting to run instead of walking. If you want to, you could try adjusting the range in project 64, to see if it helps.
