mupen64 keeps renaming rom directory

after almost 24 hours of compiling I almost have Mupen64 running properly on my 64bit Ubuntu 14.04 installation I have found one annoying bug which i hope i can resolve with some help.

What's happening is that every time I launch Mupen64 my ROM directory is missing, and when i go to edit it I see that keeps renaming my Roms directory. The true path to the folder which contains my ROMS is:

/home/mikeal/games/mupen64-0.5/Mupen64ROMS

but when i launch Mupen64 and see no ROMS available, and navigate to the ROM BROWSER, I see that Mupen64 has changed the path to:

/home/mikeal/gmmes/mupen64-0.5/Mupen44ROMS/

In the ROM BROWSER it wont let me remove this DIR unless I use 'REMOVE ALL', and then when I re-add the proper DIR I can see my ROMSs, but only for that session until it reopens where it is renamed again.

Running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. The ROMS folder specified is has permissions by owner (was root, and I changed it but this did not help)

It seems this setting, and other settings (like changing the input pluggin will not save after exiting)
