Mupen64Plus not starting in Windows 10

I am trying to run Mupen64Plus on Windows 10, but the software seems to shut down as soon as it opens. I am running Version 2.5 (tried both regular and New Dynarec versions) and have tried in Windows XP and Windows 7 compatibility modes.

The window appears for less than a second and then immediately disappears (also from the taskbar - it is no longer a running task) with no warning message.

Any suggestions?

The normal program you get from the official release page is a commandline based utility, the way to open it would be going into cmd.exe and executing it as follows

/path/to/mupen64plus.exe romname

if you intend to use it as such, refer to the documentation at: http://mupen64plus.org/wiki/index.php?title=UIConsoleUsage

If you'd rather use a GUI you can use M64Py or Mupen64plus-Qt
