IBM has hit the 1Tbps rate (yes 1000000000000 bits per second), or think of it this way, you can send your 3T hard drives contents in roughly 25 seconds across a network. THAT is if you could get the data out fast enough.

However also in the news are optical links built into the IC's this is for more conventional (but still very fast) rates of 100G (so it's 1/10th the speed but ... at that speed it's hard to find a data source fast enough to get that much data from).

This means the data center will be shrinking and the speed of processing won't.
