Majora's Mask Error

The game works ok so far, except that whenever I pause, the screen pauses without displaying the menu. I can still hear the menu noises, but all I can see is Link frozen in place. When I unpause, the game unpauses and works like normal. It makes choosing items a pretty difficult process.
