game controller(s) for emulation

i heard it was possible to use an xbox 360 controller to play the games. i tried to just plug it in but that didn't work to well. is there something im supposed to do first? i was wondering if you could help me with that. oh its a mad catz brand also so it could be that i need a Microsoft controller. or wil it not work at all. if anyone can help me with this i would much appreciate it.

you need the XBCD+ Driver to be able to use the controller otherwise it'll never work and I have the MadCatz one and the Joytech ones and they work fine with the XBCD+ drivers. j64:

XBCD 0.2.6, (+ isn't as updated), or the Japanese translated drivers, for Wireless controls.
