I`m thinking of buying a flat screen tv.

Sony

Sony does suck ... when they break throw them away as that is the only way to repair anything with the Sony brand name on it.

This has been true for the last 20 years. Such is life. The only thing Sony made that was decent was there U matic 18mm tape units for broadcast TV. Obviously that is no longer made (not for 15 years at least).

Sony makes 'nifty' stuff but unless you buy there professional equipment ... forget about getting it fixed. It breaks easily I might point out as well.

Samsung makes better equipment because they are far more conservative in how they build there equipement. It may be somewhat bigger it may not be as 'nifty' but it will work well for a VERY long time and you can get it fixed more easily than anything that says Sony.

Tell that to the folks at AVS who have bought the Samsung Blu-Ray players. I do hear that their CS is good though.

Sony hate is quite popular. While I don't care for their LCDs, I do like everything else they make. I've been using Sony components throughout my entertainment system for many, trouble-free years. The not-yet-retired Trinitron I recently replaced is still going strong after more than ten years.

Yeah, Sony do have their bright sides...A friend of mine recently bought a 40" TV online. Apparently, it worked out fine for him, he got it brought directly to the door. He bought this one: http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=349396
It´s 40"...BUTIWANTA42"! Seriously, don´t ask me why i want a 42" instead of 40, i seriously don´t know.. However, the TV there has a pretty good price..Note that it is in KR, not dollars, so it is NOT that much.

Btw, i will add pics as soon as i get it. I should have enough money by the end of the month, so i will see how the prices are then.

I searched a bit on the site i mentioned earlier, and i saw a 42" TV there. Amazing price, full HD resolution, and comes with a wall mount. It...Just can´t get any better then that..Seriously. I have started paying taxes now, so i have to save a extra 2 weeks to get the TV:( Have to be really patient then-And hope the TV i saw online still will be as cheap. And yes, i think i will go for it...Worked out for my friend, he got it directly to the door, so it should work for me as well. I can even get it over night.

August 14th, that will be the day. 5 days before my birthday. Being patient is tough..

EDIT: Also, the site i´m talking about is 100% reliable. They cooperate with other real stores as well (Real as in not online, an actual store).

EDIT 2: My mother reminded me of something that freaking slipped my mind. Holy crap, how stupid am i to forget something like this..I divide the payment! I just pay what i have now, then i pay the rest later. It is not that monthly payment that in the end costs more, no. This is an agreement between the store and the customer. I work out a payment method with the store, and i´m all set! I just pay the next time i get money.

I have done it before, so it should work out fine...So there is a VERY HIGH possibility that i get the TV TOMORROW! That would be super ultra mega bitchin sweet!

Its not so much that Sony makes crap, its the quality of the components, like most products these days are made in China using cheap parts which have the shelf life of a carton of milk.

Joke aside, as i said, i might get a TV already tomorrow (Which is today, since it´s past midnight.) So W00T for me, and maybe some for you as well..

If you're looking in the 40"-50" range of TV's, keep in mind that generally speaking price vs quality, a DLP will blow an LCD out of the water. (If you don't mind the extra inch or two in width)

Only bad thing about DLP is changing the lamp every ~8000 hours. As a reference, I've had my LCD since around March and already clocked about 3000 hours on it. (Granted I use my computer as much or more than a TV and I use my computer as my TV) But even still, around $250 every 8k hours might add up... the average person spends somewhere around 15-20 hours a week watching TV, then there's the people who leave it on for the noise or laziness. :)

Nah, i´m not looking into buying a DLP anytime soon, that is seriously overkill. I will be pretty close to the TV, so the size i picked will be more then enough. Besides, i can´t be bothered with buying a freaking lamp every 8000 hours. If i WOULD buy one though, then something to show it on wouln´t be a problem. I have white walls. I could just show it right on the wall. They did that on the junior high i went to, it looked fantastic. But, my room is not a movie theater, so i´m not gonna bother. Yet.

EDIT: F*ck. F*cking f*ck. I went to the store to get a TV, and wanted to divide the payment so i could pay a certain price when i had the money. However, it was denied because i didn´t have a "proper income". OK. I don´t make THAT much money, but i have enough income to pay for the TV in just over a month. I decided "f*ck it", and went to another store. I asked the same thing there, they had one of these "Buy now, pay later" things going on...Buy now, pay in 3 months. I thought "Piece of cake", but NO! Denied again. Why? The answer went something like this.... "I dunno." Up yours. An answer like that, and you just lost a customer. I´m buying the one i saw online instead, 1766,21, including wall mount, 42", and is FULL HD. It is cheaper anyway, so i really don´t know what i was thinking.

Lol. Yeah, it slipped my freaking mind, haven´t heard ANYTHING about it in a long time. Sorry bout that. Awkward. Yes, i have been looking at DLP´s, but i think LCD would be the best choice for me. I looked at yet another store, they had some very good prices. I get money by the end of the month, so i´ll see how much i have then.

Ok. Oook. Time for an update on this whole situation. I have now ordered a 40", pixel porn TV. According to a friend of mine, this TV is the real deal, the very definition of "Teh shit". I trust him on this, hey, he´s my most valued friend. I look forward to getting this baby. Another friend of mine really gave me a taste for it, he brought along his 37" TV, which was...Intense, to say the least. And it´s the same brand, the TV is identical, so i get the same experience, only a bigger screen! Maaan, this is gonna be great...I cant wait, i cant wait, i cant wait, i cant wait etc etc...

Yeah, it´s not bad. It´s not the best shizzer EVER, but i tried the TV a friend of mine brought with him, and i thought it was good. VERY good. Amazing coincidence that this TV was suggested by another friend of mine.
