No rumble w/ adaptoid (vista sp1)

I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. I'm running vista sp1 x64 with the latest dx redist (june 08) and dont have any rumble pak support although the controller works fine. I'm sure everything is set up correctly and i've tried a number of plugins and nothing seems to work. Wondered if anyone else had any better luck or knew of a solution. Anyone know if the same problem occurs on x86 fwiw?

official nintendo one (nus-005) with official rumble pack (nus-013)

i really wish i had another controller/rumble pack to test with, or at least xp installed somewhere to see if it still works on it. i recall it working fine with xp but that was a few months ago and i really hadnt tried using it again until recently.

edit: actually i can test it tomorrow at college. i'll give it a try there just to make sure it is vista-related and not the rumble pack. i've also got a vista sp1 x86 box at my parents house i'll check on just to help isolate things.

I'll assume you're using an Adaptoid then. Does everything work with the included Adaptoid input plugin on PJ64?

And this is silly, but I'll mention it anyway-- the Rumble Pak requires batteries. Make sure the ones you put in have enough juice.

no none of the plugins work. I tried the older nrage 1.80a that came with 1.6, along with 1.82 and 1.83 from nrage's website, along with your 2.1 debug.

i just swapped out the batteries for fresh ones with no luck. i'll test it tomorrow on an xp box and start isolating things.

Next thing I'd suspect is drivers, the Adaptoid drivers may not work properly in Vista. But in any case the PJ64 builtin Adaptoid specific input plugin is going to be your best bet. If that doesn't work then NRage certainly won't. The NRage adaptoid stuff was never really finished even in 2.1; it was one of those things I'd planned to fix but still haven't gotten around to yet.

If you can get input from the controller but no rumble, then I'd suspect either the batteries or the drivers, in that order.

If you can't get input at all, go to the Control Panel and select Game Controllers (or whatever MS has decided to call it now). There's a way for you to test the buttons on the controller to make sure Windows can even see it properly.

Newest drivers are 2.01 but they haven't been updated in a very long time.

as no one else has complained, im' pretty sure i just have a broken rumble pack. switching out batteries didnt work and it didnt work on xp either.

also i doubt those drivers are even vista compatible and the pj64 adaptoid plugin didnt detect the adaptoid. i know xp recognizes it as an adaptoid, but vista just as a hid-compliant game controller

You need a driver of some sort to operate outside of HID mode. To do this, get the correct drivers (Official drivers: http://www.wishtech.com/download.htm ) You may also need to find a way to curcumvate driver signing in Vista 64-bit.

Also, be sure your using the Adaptoid input plugin. It should handle everything for you, after the controller is properly set up.

OT: In your sig you're using HTML when you want bbcode.

Should be

Which produces

The reason for BBCode is so that any HTML related exploits will become ineffective. The BBCode is translated to HTML before it hits the page but since BBCode is a small subset you have very little chance of doing something bad to the users computer (Mostly just get their IP Address if you have access to the server logs in any way.)

Also, the input is simplified so <br\> and <br> are useless. Just use enter like for normal messages.

thanks for the fix but i just cleared my sig instead. i havent updated that site since x2f4u went missing.

i'll play around with disable driver signing tomorrow and see how things go, but if that was the case i'd imagine more people might have said something by now having the same problem. plus i think its about time to move on and the saitek p2900 looks like a modern solution.

I have an adaptoid and Vista x64 and've never got it to work properly within Vista. The adaptoid plugin will not detect the controller so you have to use another input plugin but that means anything plugged into the controller won't work so you'll have no rumble and need to use an emulated controller pak (annoying!). I'm toying with the idea of having a partition for XP solely for N64 emulation to get the most out of my adaptoid. :(

If one could get technical details from Wish-tech it would be theoretically possible to build a full Vista driver. Of course, convincing them to open up the drivers would be rather tough these days.

Just wanted to add, with Window 7 x64, it's the same situation. You can't use any of the features of the Adaptoid driver, so the built-in key mapper doesn't work, and can't use the Adaptoid plugin either.

It's recognized perfectly fine as a controller in Windows though, so I just used Jabo's DirectInput which works great. For key mapping, I found that the old program Joy2Key works fine as well, which I didn't expect! (I spent a lot of time searching for a newer one, but only Joy2Key worked and is free).
