Cranky's Barrell test problem in Donkey Kong 64

First and foremost I would like to offer my thanks to the authors of this excellent emulator. A big thanks to smiff, Olax et al for their greatly informative N64 emulation sites which have been invaluable in getting to terms with the emulation scene. Lastly, I must say how much I enjoy this forum. The advice and time given by each person is very much appreciated by me.

Now apologies. My first post is another Donkey Kong 64 question. I have a similar problem to demonmind in his thread "a sinking feeling about Donkey Kong" However I have passed that particular test. My problem lies in that I am unable to thro the 5 oranges. Each time Donkey Kong approaches an orange, the orange moves as if it has been thrown and this happens for all 5 oranges. I then awit for time to run out and I have failed the test.

I have a good rom Donkey Kong (U) (!) and am using the latest version of Project 64 V.1.4 with the all the updates kindly provided by Smiff in his Resources Thread.

I fail to see how it can be a Control issue as I was able to pass the other tests using the Z button.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh! my Specs are:

PIII 1 GHZ
Windows ME
128 RAM
ATI Radeon
40 GB HD

God I just read my first thread!!! Perhaps I should have asked if anyone would have a save state just after completing Cranky's Barrel test?

I played the particular part of the game without any problems. perhaps you should change input-plugin, or set the counter factor back to 2 ( must do a save state before as the intro freezes in cf2 mode). what about gameshark codes ? Just download the new pj64 cheat database and activate "maximum oranges for donkey kong".

Thanks Mantis,

I will try this and let you know what happens. I'll pretty sure I have the latest version of the cheat database but will double-check. I have tried changing input plug-in from the latest version of Jab to N-Rage and the same thing happened with the oranges. Very strange. Incidently, I experienced the same problem while using 1964 v7.2 with the 7.3 patch.

Anyway regardless. Thanks again Mantis for getting back to me. I will let you know soon whether it works or not.

Feedback on Cranky's Barrel Test Problem in Donkey Kong 64

Just to let you know I've tried the suggestions Mantis gave me yesterday and no success. The new Cheat Database does not have activate "maximum oranges for donkey kong" code and I have been unable to find a code for this to add to the database.

For those of you who passed the barrel tests which input Plugin did you use?

Is this game as Smiff suggested sometime ago not fully playable?

If someone could offer me a solution or a save-state just after completing the barrel tests I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you for all your help and sorry to bother you with something as trivial as this.

Save State Required

Er...Could I ask for a Save State for Donkey Kong 64 (U) please.

If anyone has one just after completing Cranky's Barrel Tests I would really appreciate it and perhaps be able to return the favour.

Thanks

Hi!

Did you check your private message folder lately?

I have to apologize, i did not noticed that the newest pj64 cheat database still not contains the dk64 cheats. Actually i use cheats )(listed below) imported from 1964emu cheat database they're all compatible with the us version. You need to apply them as new cheat in the gameshark codes menu.I have written a notification to pj64 cheatmakers about this topic, it seeems they hsaven't implented it yet.

Savestate will be sent but for this specific state of the game you must wait till next week.(must visit my home)

Thanks Mantis for going to all this trouble for me.
I hope to return the favour soon. I saw your post about The Angry Aztec level and would also be interested in helping with this issue. This will of course have to wait until I take both your and Oravla's advice about DK in this annoying section.

Again I will try out your suggestions and let you know how I progress.

I have read the posts about Dk and there seems to be many other problems along the way. The only reason to try to resolve these is Rare make such great games.

Again thanks Mantis.

Well I had quite a productive night in the world of emulation yester-evening. Not again with the Cranky Mini Barrel tests, which we all passed without problems, I hear you say. Yes I tried both the cheat codes and changing the counter factor and again changing input plugins. Still nothing. Then something rather strange happened on my system with Jab's latest plugin. Under controller where I set all my gamepad button functions the Z button had cahnged form the one I chose. To flipper right or something. Oh incidently I am using a Gravis Eliminator Aftershock. I have never experienced any problems with plugins before and was unable to changed the Z button back to the setting I wished. So, and here comes the really funny part, I had to finally reinstall PJ64 1.4 and in being rather tired I accidently overwrote my save folder and lost all my save states:

Conker - gone
Jet Force Gemini - Gone
Mario 64 - gone
Goldeneye - gone
Majora's Mask - gone

So as I sat for about a minute in dismay I said to myself there is a morale to this never play around with even simple emulation matters when you are bollocked tired.

I believe the problem I'm having with DK64 is a plugin issue but I can't understand how I can pass one section which requires a Z button action and not the other. Incidently this problem with the oranges happens with each plugin I use.

So I will just be patient and awit Mantis' kind offer of a save state next week.

The end.

Hi!

Infinite Ammo=1-4,807FCC41-0096,
Infinite Oranges=0,807FCC45-0096,

1st I am not being picky here, but i think the above are the other way round.

I have just glanced at that quickly but i believe these 2 should be

Infinite Ammo,1="Donkey Kong",0,807FCC45-0096,
Infinite Oranges,1="Donkey Kong",0,807FCC41-0096,

& for PJ

Cheat0="Donky Kong\Infinite\Ammo",807FCC45 0096
Cheat1="Donky Kong\Infinite\Oranges",807FCC41 0096

Sorry for this not being in the Beta File But slougi has been busy with school stuff But he will be getting to it ;)

No stress. Thanks for letting me know Gentleman.
Although I did use the Infinite Oranges=0,807FCC45-0096 code last night and when I was in the Orange Min-barrel test when once the oranges move without Dk toughing them it gave me a total of 150 oranges; but didn't fix the problem -i.e let me pass the test.

I don't suppose there exist a "Skip the min-barrel test, or automatically complete mini-barrel test " cheat?

God I must say it is infurinating that a simple thing like this can prevent me form continuing the game.

Regardless thanks for your help Gentleman.

Well you can't blame me for trying.

I must be the only lucky person with this problem. I'll be glad when its resolved. Oh incidently I think it might be a good exercise to place this thread also in the 1964 forum as I am having the same problem in Project 64 1.4 as in 1964 0.72 with 0.73 patch.

Hey Doomulation,

I have very little programming knowledge and am reluctant to play around with C++ if I can avoid it. I would need an idiot proof guide, judging by my great adventure last night.

Thanks C

Hi Ya,

Yes I have an update on the DK64 problem I have been experiencing with the Throw 5 Oranges Cranky mini-barrel test.

I have tried each of the suggestions given above and still can not pass this test. The oranges seem to be translucant. Or not solid if this makes sense. Donkey kong can not pick up the oranges they disappear and give a score on the bottom left of the screen. Any ideas why this is happening. I do not think it has anything to do with the CF, as I have changed the CF to both 2 and 3 and still have not been able to pass the test.

According to the FAQ:
How can I pass <insert point in game here>?
Make sure you have the latest RDB - with a Counter Factor of 4 there should be no points in the game that aren't passable (not 100% confirmed).

I have the latest RDB and can not pass this section.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me by providing an explanation as to why.

As my name suggests I am curious as to what is going on.

Please someone at least tell me why it is happening even if it can't be solved.

Thanks,
C.
