    Majoras Mask pause problem

Alright, so iv played through the game a LONG way, and suddenly its giving me a problem. I started up the emulator this morning and when i loaded the rom, low and behold, it froze. The best part is, the game itself runs just fine, but as soon as i pause the game, the rom startes pausing it so it gets blurry and pixelated, but it just stays that way. The emulator still shows it running at about 60 fps, but the actual video is frozen. Audio keeps on going, and it even makes that little sound for the pause menu. Im at a loss and i really dont feel like starting all over again. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a potential graphics plugin error. Can you try making a new game and see if playing the game from the start, and pausing your game, causes this to happen then too? If you can replicate the error from a new game it's one of two things. Either it's your rom, meaning that it might be "bad" at that point in the game and you're just now hitting the "bad spot" (which can cause the core to go nutty). Or it might be that some settings in your plugin aren't matching up correctly with Majora's Mask and causing crazy graphics issues.

There are no appearant "known problems" that match up with what you are detailing, and if you are using the same plugins as you've been from the start, it's got to be a changed setting or a bad rom. Or it may possibly be your device drivers for your graphics card itself. But I don't think that is the most likely cause.

Well, it doesnt happen on a new game, but i really dont have the gusto to start all over again (the game is so repetative anyway!) so it must be a bad rom (so i wouldnt want to spend all those hours again beating all the stuff for nothing) thanks for the help and i guess ill just have to pass the time other ways. Well don't give up just yet!!!! I started a long game of OoT on a Spanish version, and decided that I wanted to play in English instead. I loaded my save file from the Spanish game on the 1.2 US version, and THAT worked.

Simply use a copy of the GoodSnes verified US version and if it loads, you're good to go. If not, you might have to use a patcher program to change the header information or just change the file name for your save to reflect your GOOD copy.

Just don't give up so easily.

K, two things. First, i have no idea where to find another rom for this because its copyrighted left right and center. (please do not think im asking for one, but simply stating that this is not an option) and second, when i do try to open the save with the other version i already have, which has a problem with the screen going totally black when it transitions from night to day or vise versa, and then the rom loads and goes TOTALLY laggy and freezes and the audio loops, GOd its terrible! Anyway, if you have info on this program you mentioned to change the format of the file, i could try playing it on 1946 or nemu or something. Thx again

I'm glad you're not asking for a rom, that'd be really bad. However, while I have no ~experience~ with the program and how to change the "bad" roms into "good" I DID dig up what appears to be the best choice for fixing your problem.

First, make absolutely sure you have a VERIFIED good copy of the game. That way you know if it's because of the rom. Download GoodN64 from the "Good64" section. Here are some links.

    Good64 threads: http://www.emutalk.net/goodn64/
    Good64 itself: http://www.emutalk.net/goodn64/12068-goodn64-2-02a.html
    Good64 front-end: http://www.emutalk.net/goodn64/12069...ows-2-4-a.html

And if the rom IS bad? Then there is a program in the Tools thread that could help. Here are some links for THAT.

    Tools thread: http://www.emutalk.net/tools/
    Paulob's Bad-to-Good patcher: http://www.emutalk.net/tools/12078-p...d-patches.html

As I have said though, I have NEVER used the patch program, and don't know if you will need WinISP 2.0 (ALSO in the TOOLS section of this forum) or not. I ~tried~ to find out as much information for you as I could, but as much as I dug, I couldn't find it. Maybe someone else has more information?

The problem is you have activated cheats which have caused a crash bug.

disable all cheats, do the song of time, save and start from the first day fresh without the cheats.

    I Think you should download the latest Goodn64 : GoodN64 V3.11

And use it with GoodGUI as windows frontend. Goodwindows is cool, but it doesn't work very well with actuals goodtools (crashes when your "have/miss .txt files" are bigger than 16ko). GoodGUI is still in devlopment. ".net framework 2.0 " is required to run it.

Thanks for the amazing help you guys have offered. I have actually never used cheats for this game in particular, so i may try that but i doubt it will work.

I didn't realize they'd released a new version of GoodN64, thanks for that knowledge. I'll download that for future needs, as well as GoodGUI.

And hopefully, Overdose, you will be able to get your game working. One of the crazier questions I have... did you install a lot of different plugins for PJ64 (or other emulators) before this problem started happening? I noticed that because I was crazy enough to try ALL of the plugins in my plugin folder at one point in time or another, and beta tested them all (and never removed them) that ALL of my games started to crawl. It was REALLY bad in the Water Temple for OoT because even the Tektites on the upper-level made my game start to hit 40 and even 35fps at the DEFAULT settings.

Now, I fixed ~that~ problem by uninstalling ALL registry values for PJ64 and the plugins, as well as uninstalling PJ64 and reinstalling them from my newest versions. It works beautifully again. Maybe that's causing you problems, since it's not cheats?
