Can you share your computer specs, and which version of PJ64 you are using? Also which graphics (and even sound and input) plugins are you using? I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure someone can help with your black ground error.

It does sound to me like you are using a plugin that isn't compatible with your video card though.
    ::Computer specs::
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.20Ghz CPU [MSI chipset] // OS: Win XP Pro - SP2 // Memory: 2 PNY 1GB DDR [400Mhz] //
    Video: ATI Radeon HD2600 XT AGP [512MB GDRR3] // Audio: Creative SB X-Fi Fatal1ty [64MB] // Storage: 950GB [3 IDE drives]

well, im using pg version 1.6 on my windows xp home edition dell
im new at this so i have not very much clue but the settings say jabo's direst3D8 1.6 for video (graphics) plugin, and Jabo'a DirectSound 2.6 for Audio (sound) plugin, and Jabo's DirectInput 7 1.6 for Input (controller) plugin.
I hope that is enough info and thanks, get back to me soon please

Black textures = below spec video hardware

Jabo Dx8 plugin requires a Geforce 3TI (confirmation???) or Radeon 8xxx and higher

Geforce 4 MX is not a Dx8 Spec chip,
you'll need to use the Dx6 plugin for that, and anything lower then that.

    such as Intel Extreme chips...

That's alright that you're new at this. The default plugins are what you are using right now... which tend to work rather nicely for most users. However, we'll need a little more information about your graphics card. Can you go to the "My Computer" icon and right click it? This will allow you to get "Properties", from here you can then tell us more information and details about the computer. That's all under "General". That will give us the information about your CPU speed, and RAM speed.

Also, you should click on the "Hardware" tab and pull up "Device Manager" which will give you an idea of what cards you have on your computer. Since this is a Graphics issue, you will want to click on the "Display Adapters" icon, and then let us know what kind of graphics card you are using. That way it can give the experts a little bit more of a clue what might be wrong.

In the meanwhile, while this might be a slight "downgrade", give the 1.5.2 version of the 3D6 graphic plugin. If THAT is letting you get rid of the black parts of the ground and fairies and other problems, you might be able to work with that.

The FAQ does say that some graphics cards WILL have issues with 1.6, as taken from the FAQ here:
"Why is the ground etc. black?:
Your video hardware and/or drivers do not support the required blend mode - your system does not meet the recommended requirements (see User Manual). You could try different drivers if your hardware is capable, different hardware, or change plugins (try the v1.5.2 plugin included)."

At present, I can't suggest any other kind of a "work-around" to change that, short of recommending a different graphics card.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: Seems Squall beat me to the post.

Awesome. I'm going to assume Squall's help got you through it.

Oh, and as for the C-Buttons, just click on "Options" and "Configure control plugin". From there, you will see the "C-Buttons" and all of your other buttons you can assign. Really easy to configure, just click the button you want assigned, and then press any key.

Edit (another): Sorry for the slower replies, I'm using a slow connection, so I'm not too fast. This does have the explination for assigning buttons. Squall is the one to ask about X-Box controllers... in fact, he's managed a nice little way of getting it to work with the correct drivers. Want to field this one?

RGB Emulation is pretty much slow for everybody, especially when compared to the Direct3D mode. If you have a below spec card, update its drivers and use Glide64+eVoodoo. Failing that, upgrade your video card to at least meet the minimum requirements.
